As part of a transformative public works initiative, AHJV is overseeing projects including the new Queens Garage (QGAR), the Queens Trunk Water Main (QTWM), and the dismantling of existing detention facilities in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, with additional site preparation in the Bronx.
About the Role
AHJV is seeking a part-time Night Shift Site Safety Monitor (SSM) to support safety compliance and oversight across multiple active project sites. As SSM, you will act as an extension of AHJV staff, working directly with the Program Management Consultant (PMC) Program Safety Manager, site teams, and contractors to ensure compliance with all safety requirements. This is a hands-on role requiring regular site visits, detailed reporting, and proactive issue resolution.
Responsibilities

Conduct safety monitoring visits at each project site at least twice per week, issuing a detailed report within 24 hours of each visit.

Enter findings into the AECOM LifeGuard system (or equivalent) and cite the specific regulations/requirements for all issues identified.

Immediately escalate noncompliance issues to the Design Builder for correction.

Respond to safety incidents and review incident investigation reports submitted by the Design Builder.

Conduct on-site safety review meetings and provide recommendations.

Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and comment as necessary.

Verify that Design Builders are following requirements of their Health and Safety Plans and the General Project Requirements.

Advise noncompliance issues to the PMC Project Manager and coordinate with the Program Safety Manager on corrective actions.

Ensure consistent communication and transparency with all stakeholders regarding safety performance.
Requirements

Minimum 15 years of relevant construction safety experience.

Bachelors degree in occupational health, safety, or related field.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Licensed NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) Site Safety Manager (not on a PW2).

Strong communication and team-building skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
