Job Openings Finance & Billing Odoo Developer (Employed or freelance)

About the job Finance & Billing Odoo Developer (Employed or freelance)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

About the assignment

A charging platform is being replaced by a new Charge Point Management System (CPMS). Odoo remains the ERP and billing engine. The assignment focuses on connecting the CPMS with Odoo and establishing reliable financial flows for rating, invoicing, payments, roaming settlement, accounting and reconciliation. These flows must remain accurate at high transaction volumes, including scenarios involving up to one million transactions.

You will work within the Odoo implementation workstream, alongside the Business Analyst for Finance and Billing, the Finance team, the integration partner and the CPMS provider.

Your responsibilities

  • Configure and develop the Odoo modules supporting invoicing, accounting, contracts and subscriptions, analytic accounting, payments and dunning.
  • Build and maintain the integration between the CPMS and Odoo, including master data synchronisation, ingestion of rated sessions and CDRs, invoice generation, credit notes, and the return flow for payment and settlement statuses.
  • Develop reliable interfaces with the payment service provider, SEPA flows and bank statement imports, including automated reconciliation and exception queues.
  • Design for both volume and failure by using idempotent processing, replay and retry mechanisms, deduplication, cut-off handling, clear error states and safeguards against silent data loss.
  • Translate functional specifications into documented, testable code. Challenge specifications when a standard Odoo capability is a better fit than a custom development.
  • Apply a standard-first approach, minimise customisation, document every deviation and preserve the upgrade path.
  • Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, and support CI/CD and deployment pipelines across development, staging and production environments.
  • Set up monitoring, logging and alerting for the financial interfaces so that failed batches are detected before they affect Finance operations.
  • Contribute to technical decisions about the target architecture together with the IT and architecture teams.

📝 Your profile

  • You have solid, demonstrable experience as an Odoo developer and have completed several implementations with recent Odoo versions, including Odoo 18.
  • You are proficient in Python, the Odoo ORM, PostgreSQL, XML views and the Odoo module development framework. Experience with OWL and front-end customisation is an advantage.
  • You understand Odoo's accounting and invoicing modules in depth, including journals, taxes, payment terms, reconciliation, multi-company and multi-currency configurations.
  • You have practical integration experience with REST APIs, XML-RPC and JSON-RPC, webhooks, queues, ETL and file-based interfaces in high-volume environments.
  • You work with Git, automated testing, CI/CD and containerised environments as part of your normal development workflow.
  • You understand accounting well enough to discuss financial processes with a controller and identify when a technical design could compromise the accounts.
  • You act as a functional sparring partner, not just an executor. You clarify the underlying need before building and raise the consequences of design choices.
  • Experience with high-volume transactional or usage-based billing environments, such as e-mobility, energy, telecommunications, payments or SaaS, is an advantage.
  • You work autonomously, document your work in a structured way and are comfortable in a project involving multiple partners.
  • You are fluent in English. A good command of French or Dutch is an advantage.

Why this assignment?

  • You will work on a greenfield integration between a CPMS and Odoo, creating new financial flows rather than maintaining a legacy charging-platform integration.
  • The scope combines high transaction volumes, multiple external systems, real-time and batch processing, and strict auditability requirements.
  • You will have direct contact with business stakeholders, supported by a Business Analyst and a Finance team with strong domain knowledge.
  • The work connects mobility, energy and technology and supports the further development of charging activities and partnerships.
  • Your work will support invoicing for thousands of customers and settlement with dozens of roaming partners each month.

Practical information

  • Workload: 5 days per week.
  • Location: Kortenberg, with hybrid working. On-site presence is expected during design sessions, testing and cutover phases.
  • Selection process: CV screening, an interview and a technical deep dive into Odoo and integration design.

Reporting line
