About the Role

Envoy Recruitment is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Nursing (RN) to lead the Emergency Department at a major Level I Trauma Center in Tucson, AZ.

This position oversees the full operations of a 38-bed Emergency Department with 2 trauma bays, managing approximately 27,000 annual visits and 815 trauma cases per day. The Director will lead a team of around 60 staff members, working closely with hospital executives, physicians, and nursing leadership to ensure excellence in emergency and trauma care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all operational, clinical, and administrative functions within the Emergency Department

• Lead and mentor nursing and clinical staff, fostering engagement, collaboration, and accountability

• Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality emergency and trauma care 24/7

• Partner with hospital leadership to develop and implement strategies for departmental growth and performance improvement

• Manage departmental budgets, staffing, and workflow optimization

• Serve as a role model and advocate for nursing professionalism, teamwork, and patient safety

• Collaborate with union representatives (NNOC) to maintain positive labor relations and operational efficiency

What You Bring

Education

• Required: Associate Degree in Nursing with a Bachelors in a healthcare-related field or BSN

• Preferred: Masters Degree (MSN or healthcare-related field)

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of progressive management experience in a hospital environment (manager or charge nurse level)

• Experience in a high-acuity emergency or trauma setting strongly preferred

Licensure & Certifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice (or eligibility to obtain)

• AHA BLS certification required

• Additional emergency or trauma-related certifications preferred
