Episcopal School of Baton Rouge is a private, college-preparatory, co-educational day school (PreK-3 through 12) committed to developing the whole child spiritually, intellectually, morally, physically, and artistically through rigorous academic and co-curricular programs.

The Social Media Writer will help articulate the schools mission, vision, and values in an engaging, clear, timely manner; strengthen community, parent, student, alumni, prospective family, and donor relationships; support enrollment, fundraising, and school spirit through strategic content.

Key Responsibilities

Below are the core duties the Social Media Writer will perform:

Content Creation & Copywriting

Write clear, compelling, brand-aligned copy for a variety of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, possibly TikTok, YouTube shorts, etc.).

Produce content in different styles/tone: news items, student or faculty spotlights, event announcements, fundraising appeals, creative campaigns, quotes, stories, etc.

Tailor messages to specific audiences: current students, parents, prospective students/families, alumni, donors, faculty/staff, community.

Content Planning & Strategy

Develop and maintain a social media content calendar to ensure consistent and strategic posting.

Propose themes, campaign ideas, seasonal content, and story arcs that align with school events, academic calendar, arts/athletics, spiritual life, admissions, etc.

Assist with planning special campaigns (fundraisers, admissions open houses, giving days, etc.).

Community Engagement & Monitoring

Monitor social media channels for comments, direct messages, mentions; respond promptly in line with institutional voice and policies.

Engage with followers through conversation, recognition, reposts, etc., to build community.

Track feedback and sentiment; adjust voice or strategy if needed.

Collaboration

Work with photography/videography/design teams (internal or external) to source or produce supporting visuals, graphics, video content.

Coordinate with admissions, development, athletics, arts, and other departments to gather content and align messaging.

Liaise with School leadership/staff if needed for approval or review of content.

Analytics & Reporting

Monitor social media metrics (engagement, reach, impressions, clicks, etc.), using analytic tools (platform tools, third-party as needed).

Prepare regular reports (weekly, monthly) showing performance, insights, recommendations.

Use data to optimize content strategy (which types of posts perform best, best times to post, etc.).

Brand Voice & Style Maintenance

Ensure all social media content reflects the schools voice, values, branding guidelines, and mission.

Maintain consistency in tone, style, grammar, spelling.

Keep up with social media best practices, trends, and platform changes; recommend new tactics.

Other Duties

Occasionally assist with writing other content: newsletters, website updates, blog posts, email campaigns, press releases.

Support virtual or on-campus events by covering them via social posts (live posting, graphics, etc.).

Stay current on competitor / peer institutions social media practices.

Qualifications

Required

U.S. citizenship

Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Minimum of 2-3 years experience writing for social media or content marketing

Excellent written English skills: grammar, style, voice, editing, proof-reading

Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, best practices

Ability to work remotely, manage time well, meet deadlines

Ability to adapt style/tone for different audiences and purposes

Familiarity with analytics tools (native platform analytics; experience with tools like Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, or similar is a plus)

Basic understanding of visual content: working with images/video, knowing what makes good social visual content; ability to coordinate with designers

Preferred

Experience in education / nonprofit / school settings

Experience with video or multimedia content creation (short video, reels, stories)

Familiarity with SEO / content optimization to drive reach or website traffic (if relevant)

Experience with social media advertising / boosting posts

Experience with content management systems (CMS) and scheduling tools
