Director, Pharmacy

The Role

As a Director, you fill a pivotal role leveraging deep practical and technical expertise in healthcare, combined with strong project management and execution skills. The joint focus of this role is to successfully lead or co-lead business development conversations with existing and potential new clients and ensure teams execute project goals and deliver tangible financial results to clients. You will bring extensive knowledge of managed care pharmacy, a proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships, and valuable insights gained through cross-industry experience and prior consulting experience. As a Director you will lead high- performing teams, fostering excellence while mentoring and developing team members in both technical capabilities and soft skills.

Work You'll Do

Leverage business contacts and relationships to secure, design and manage extensions and prospects for new business

Oversee the successful execution of multiple client projects

Work in a matrix management environment, leading internal teams and client facing meetings

Work with medical and pharmacy claims and other healthcare data to analyze and identify cost management opportunities

Secure and manage client projects while identifying and mitigating risk

Maintain strong profitability for each project

Coach multiple teams, mentor and develop staff by imparting functional knowledge, consulting skills and experience

Formulate and communicate our corporate vision, create a shared sense of purpose and inspire others

Contribute effectively to the development of new service offerings, marketing initiatives and proposals

Plan, manage and lead business development discussions

Develop strong relationships with the clients that evolve beyond the contracted assignment and leverage this relationship to initiate future engagement opportunities

Actively participate in the recruiting process through interviewing, referrals, and other opportunities to promote AArete

Requirements

B.S. degree in Healthcare related field or Finance

8-10 years Medicaid/Medicare/Exchange (or "government funded") and Commercial managed care pharmacy experience within health systems, health plans, and PBMs

Previous healthcare consulting experience

Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives in managed care pharmacy

Demonstrated expertise in managed care pharmacy including PBM contracting, formulary strategy, rebate contracting, utilization management, clinical programs, analytics and reporting, and regulatory compliance

Strong cross-industry perspective, with insights gained from prior experience and work with diverse healthcare stakeholders (payers, PBMs, health systems, manufacturers)

Experience with various drug pricing methodologies and reference files (Medi-Span, NCPDP, CMS)

Proven ability to analyze complex healthcare and pharmacy data (e.g., medical and PBM claims, utilization, cost trends, formulary and rebate performance), identify cost drivers and translate findings into actionable cost reduction strategies.

Have 8-10+ years of experience managing teams, projects and business development activities

Direct client interaction, including travel to client location or AArete offices

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship

Preferred Requirements

Licensed Pharmacist

Advanced degree in Healthcare Administration or Business

Proven success in driving revenue growth through business development and client retention strategies.

Expertise in data analytics and financial modeling to support managed care decision-making.

Prior leadership experience in a consulting environment, with responsibility for P&L or service line growth.

Strong understanding of emerging trends in healthcare policy, pharmacy benefit management, and value-based care.

Based in Chicago, IL, and flexible to work from our Chicago office as needed

The estimated base salary range for this position is $165,000 - $200,000. In addition to this base salary, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. This range is a part of a competitive, total compensation package together with our majority employer-paid benefits and incentive pay for eligible roles. Please note that this range is a guideline and individual total compensation may vary due to numerous factors including but not limited to experience level, certifications, and other relevant business considerations.
