Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Must be able to prepare estimates, with minimal supervision, for projects ranging from small to large in industrial construction environments, including power plants, chemical plants, and utilities.
As an Estimator , this position will handle all functions of the estimating process from receipt of the RFQ through job walk-downs, resource planning, and development of a complete estimate for management review.
The role requires site visits, job walk-downs, regional travel across the Southeast, and may require overtime based on workload and bid schedules.
Strong working knowledge of industrial construction trades—including pipefitting, ironwork, millwright, and boilermaker work—is required. Must have previous experience in estimating Industrial Projects.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Attend site walk-throughs of RFQs and proposals to determine execution strategies
Perform job walk-downs in active industrial facilities
Work in conjunction with Field Operations to determine labor availability and resource constraints
Interpret and decipher drawings to determine scope of work and execution approach
Work directly with customers to ensure a clear understanding of project requirements
Thoroughly prepare estimates accounting for all project components, including:
– Labor
– Equipment
– Materials
– Take-offs
– Taxes
Develop estimates with a strong focus on pipefitting, ironwork, millwright, and boilermaker scopes
Identify suppliers and subcontractors based on quality, safety, pricing, and delivery
Organize and lead bid reviews with Upper Management for assigned projects
Participate in handover / transition meetings with Project Management
Maintain files of working documents and quotations supporting estimate development
Assist with awarded contracts as required, including budget creation and change order estimating
Work with team members to assist with other estimates as needed
Perform additional assignments per supervisors direction
Must be able to work extended hours with minimal notice to meet workload demands
Must operate in a team environment centered on a strong culture of safety
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in industrial construction environments such as power plants, chemical plants, or utilities
Strong working knowledge of pipefitting, ironwork, millwright, or boilermaker trades
Four-year construction, engineering, or related degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Senior level candidates will be considered based on experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques related to industrial construction
Ability to calculate quantities including weight, length, area, and volume using basic geometry
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and customer documents
Knowledge of estimating standards and construction discipline practices
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position will involve exposure to conditions typical of chemical plants, manufacturing facilities, and power plants, including heat, cold, live equipment, and industrial environments.
All required personal protective equipment to ensure a safe work environment will be provided by Gulf Coast Industrial.
