About the Role

The Accountant will be responsible for managing the organization's financial records, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. The role involves overseeing end-to-end accounting operations, supporting audits, and contributing to financial planning and decision-making.

You will play a critical role in ensuring financial transparency, supporting business growth, and maintaining the organization's financial health.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Recordkeeping & Reconciliation

  • Record and reconcile all financial transactions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain and manage the general ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor cash flow and ensure proper financial controls are in place.
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and oversee asset management processes.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations and other statutory requirements.
  • Prepare and file tax returns and statutory deductions (PAYE, VAT, WHT).
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.

Budgeting & Financial Planning

  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Provide financial insights to support management decision-making.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy.

Systems, Payroll & Administration

  • Manage accounting software and core banking system accounting modules (e.g., BankOne, Sage, QuickBooks).
  • Oversee payroll administration, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Maintain accurate staff financial records.
  • Handle finance-related administrative duties such as vendor payments and procurement documentation.
  • Liaise with regulators and other stakeholders when required.

Reports To: Managing Director (MD)

Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years relevant accounting experience, preferably within financial institutions or microfinance banks.
  • Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, ACA) is highly preferred.
  • Microfinance Certification Programme (MCP) from CIBN is an added advantage.
  • Experience managing full-cycle accounting independently.
  • Strong exposure to regulatory compliance, tax filing, and audit processes within Nigeria.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, BankOne or similar platforms).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Good understanding of Nigerian financial regulations and microfinance operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct in handling financial data.
