Design Engineer – Defence & Advanced Vehicle Systems

We are seeking an experienced Design Engineer with a background in the defence or advanced engineering sector to join a high-performing, specialist design team. This role requires expertise not typically found in the domestic vehicle sector and offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge, complex vehicle platforms.
You will play a key role in the design and development of powertrains (systems that generate and transfer power to road, water, or air), including driveline, suspension, and full platform integration. Platforms may be tracked or wheeled, conventional or hybrid-powered.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out detailed design using 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks & Creo)

Perform design analysis and simulation using MSC Apex & Nastran

Develop high-quality, cost-effective design solutions within fast-paced project environments

Maintain rigorous quality standards for 3D models and manufacturing drawings

Contribute to all aspects of vehicle development, including suspension, driveline, and systems integration

Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in powertrain, driveline, suspension, and hybrid systems

Communicate and present technical concepts clearly to internal teams, clients, and suppliers
Required Skills & Software Experience

Strong 3D modelling capability

Experience in design analysis and simulation

Proficiency in one or more major CAD systems

Experience with:

SolidWorks

PTC Creo 3D CAD

MSC Apex & Nastran

ADAMS (multibody dynamics simulation)

Hexagon measurement technologies (advantageous)

ANSYS (beneficial)

Experience & Qualifications
-
Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or significant directly relevant experience)

Minimum 3+ years of design experience, ideally focused on powertrain, driveline, or suspension systems

Experience in defence, specialist vehicle, or advanced engineering sectors preferred

Practical experience with hybrid powertrain technology is a strong advantage

Experience in driveline and suspension system validation is beneficial
-
Highly motivated self-starter who thrives both independently and within a small collaborative team
