Position Title: Electrical Specialist,  Design & Construction

Department: Engineering Electrical Works
Reporting Line: Project Engineering Manager
Job Location: Kigali, Rwanda

Overview

We are seeking a qualified Electrical Specialist with strong expertise in both design and construction phases of large-scale infrastructure projects. The selected candidate will support the successful execution of the Kigali Centralised Sewerage System project, including a 12,000 m³/day sewage treatment plant, pumping stations, and extensive sewer networks. This role requires deep technical proficiency in electrical systems for utilities and wastewater infrastructure, particularly in projects involving medium and low voltage distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), and instrumentation.

Primary Responsibilities

Design & Engineering Oversight

  • Review and validate electrical design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for STP and pumping stations.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable codes, international standards, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and instrumentation teams to ensure proper integration of electrical systems.

Construction Supervision

  • Oversee on-site electrical installations and ensure alignment with design documents.
  • Supervise the commissioning of electrical systems, including motors, control panels, and power distribution.
  • Troubleshoot issues during installation and commissioning phases, ensuring safety and performance.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement QA/QC procedures for electrical works in alignment with project standards.
  • Ensure all electrical installations meet safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support inspections and third-party audits when required.

Project Documentation & Coordination

  • Prepare and review technical reports, progress updates, and as-built documentation.
  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and consultants for all electrical-related tasks.
  • Support procurement in selecting appropriate electrical components and systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of total experience, with at least 8 years in similar sewerage or utility infrastructure projects.
  • Project Portfolio: Must have contributed to more than 12 relevant infrastructure projects involving STPs, pump stations, or large-scale utility systems.
