Sustainability Manager (Energy & Automation)

 Job Description:

Job Purpose : 

A senior client-facing and technical leadership role within the Sustainability team, with a primary focus on energy efficiency, ESCO project execution, financial modeling, and digital tool growth, while contributing to other sustainability streams including carbon management, ESG reporting, waste reduction, and certifications. The role requires deep expertise in managing ESCO projects end-to-end, coordinating vendors and partners, leading a team of energy consultants, and driving the market growth of Farneks proprietary sustainability platforms.

Accountabilities



Energy Auditing, Implementation & ESCO Project Delivery

  • Lead the Energy Team, providing technical guidance, reviewing and approving energy audit reports, and ensuring all deliverables meet the highest technical and professional standards.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of energy projects from audits and feasibility studies to implementation, commissioning, and close-out whether focused on assessments, efficiency upgrades, decarbonization programs, or full ESCO performance contracting.
  • Oversee feasibility studies, project scoping, and business case development for energy and sustainability opportunities.
  • For ESCO projects, act as Project Lead, managing commercial structuring, savings guarantees, and Measurement & Verification (M&V) in line with IPMVP protocols.
  • Lead vendor and partner selection, including pre-qualification, tendering, evaluation, and contract negotiations for energy equipment, technology solutions, and services.
  • Coordinate with vendors, technology partners, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with scope, timelines, budgets, and performance requirements.
  • Supervise on-site works and installations, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Validate project outcomes whether energy savings, operational improvements, or emissions reductions ensuring they meet agreed objectives.
  • Provide regular progress updates and technical reports to stakeholders, including performance tracking, risk mitigation, and change control measures.
  • Financial Modeling, Commercial Structuring & Contract Development
  • Prepare detailed financial models for energy projects, including cash flow analysis, ROI, IRR, NPV, and payback calculations.
  • Structure contracts for different delivery models, including guaranteed savings, shared savings, and traditional implementation projects.
  • Conduct sensitivity and risk analysis to optimize financial returns and minimize exposure.
  • Lead the development, review, and negotiation of contracts for energy, sustainability, and ESCO projects, ensuring commercial viability and legal compliance.
  • Work with clients, vendors, and financing partners to structure agreements that balance technical performance with financial objectives.
  • Digital Tools Development, Optimization & Market Growth
  • Oversee strategy, deployment, and enhancement of Farneks digital platforms (e.g., POWERTEK, Hotel Optimizer, Carbontek & Wastek) for energy, decarbonization, circularity , carbon accounting, and sustainability KPIs.
  • Integrate technical and financial project data into tools to track and report on performance against contractual and operational targets.
  • Develop and execute market growth strategies for digital tools, including go-to-market plans, client engagement strategies, and partnership development.
  • Represent Farnek in industry forums, client events, and marketing activities to promote digital platforms and showcase success stories.
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to prepare promotional content, case studies, and client materials that highlight tool capabilities and results.
  • Sustainability Project Involvement
  • Support broader sustainability initiatives such as ESG reporting, waste diversion, water efficiency, and certification projects (LEED, Green Globe, TRUE, WELL).
  • Provide cross-functional technical input to integrated sustainability solutions.
  • Business Development & Client Engagement
  • Lead business development activities for both energy projects and sustainability services, including digital platform offerings.
  • Engage with clients to identify opportunities, align solutions with business and sustainability goals, and present tailored proposals.
  • Support the development of marketing plans and campaigns that promote Farneks energy and sustainability capabilities.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure alignment between technical delivery and commercial objectives.
  • Market Intelligence & Strategy
  • Monitor trends in energy efficiency, decarbonization, green finance, digital tool innovation, and sustainability regulations.
  • Provide insights to leadership to refine service offerings and strengthen competitive positioning.

Objectives : 

  • Lead and manage energy management initiatives across client facilities.
  • Drive energy efficiency, optimization, and sustainability projects that result in measurable cost savings and reduced environmental impact.
  • Oversee energy audits, ESCO projects, and retrofits, ensuring technical quality and compliance with international standards.
  • Support clients in achieving sustainability certifications (e.g., ISO 50001, LEED, Green Globe).
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership to ensure projects align with both business goals and ESG/net-zero commitments.

Education : 

  1. Education/Qualification
  2. Bachelors/ Master degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  3. Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
  4. Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP).
  5. LEED, ISO 50001, or equivalent sustainability/energy certifications are a plus.

b. Experience (experience required for the job)

  • 1015 years experience in energy management, sustainability consulting, or ESCO project delivery.
  • Strong record in energy audits, retrofits, optimization projects, and ESCO performance contracting.
  • Strong background in energy systems design, operation, and optimization, including:
    • SCADA systems (design, deployment, integration with energy data).
    • Building Management Systems (BMS), automation protocols, and controls (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, KNX, OPC).
    • IoT-enabled energy monitoring platforms and smart metering networks.
  • Experience with automation protocols: BACnet, Modbus, OPC-UA, KNX, MQTT, LonWorks.
  • Demonstrated experience in integration of digital platforms for energy efficiency, carbon accounting, and sustainability KPIs.
  • Oversight of automation projects (sensors, gateways, controllers, network protocols) linked to energy optimization.
  • Client-facing expertise in presenting technical findings, digital dashboards, and ROI cases.
  • Strong commercial experience in structuring and delivering performance-based contracts (ESCO, shared savings, guaranteed savings).
  • Exposure to software and programming integration (Python, Java, C#, SQL) to oversee digital tool and API deployments.

Skills (general job knowledge & skills) : 

  • Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, lighting, electrical, renewables, water efficiency).
  • Advanced capability in energy auditing, retrofit design, and operational optimization.
  • Solid grasp of digital dashboards, automation platforms, and energy monitoring tools.
  • Deep expertise in IPMVP-based M&V and savings validation.
  • Experience with data analytics, AI/ML-based forecasting, and energy dashboards.
  • Ability to translate technical project data into digital KPIs (energy savings, carbon reduction, ROI).
  • Strong grounding in automation, controls engineering, and industrial networks.
  • Ability to oversee coding, APIs, and data integration workflows with technical teams.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and data integrity in automation networks.
