Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Land Surveyor to plan, organize, and direct the work of other surveyors and technicians engaged in surveying activities. The role involves determining precise locations, measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction, mapping, utility locations, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), land division, and other purposes. This position promotes safe work practices, evaluates staff progress and results, and represents the company in meetings with clients and stakeholders.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and act as a staff advisor and consultant for surveying functions and personnel management
  • Coordinate survey findings with engineering, right-of-way, utility coordination personnel, clients, and others involved
  • Determine project scope, objectives, and man-hour budgets in collaboration with other project managers
  • Independently make decisions on surveying problems and methods, represent the organization in important meetings
  • Research previous survey records, maps, deeds, and physical evidence to obtain necessary data
  • Plan and develop surveying projects involving complex or unique issues impacting major projects
  • Analyze survey objectives and prepare or oversee preparation of survey proposals
  • Schedule, assign, and direct surveying projects within the firm
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of data, charts, maps, and related survey documentation
  • Train and direct assistants and helpers in survey and drafting tasks
  • Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 years of surveying experience
  • Professional Registered Land Surveyor license required
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction surveying regulations
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts including geometry, trigonometry, statistics, fractions, ratios, and proportions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Approximately 80% office-based, generally sedentary with occasional standing and walking
  • Occasional field work under various weather conditions (heat, cold, wet, dry)
  • Travel approximately 20% of the time
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed
