Senior IP Network Design Engineer

This role has been on the market for a while. Not because the opportunity is not good, but because the right person is genuinely hard to find.

The client builds and validates complex IP network solutions across multi-vendor environments. They need someone with a minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience who has been deep inside IP/MPLS networks, knows BGP inside out, and has personally taken a solution from design through lab validation and into production. Not someone who has watched it happen. Someone who has done it and can do it again without being walked through every step.

Day to day you will be analysing network architectures, running end-to-end lab testing across Cisco and Juniper platforms, identifying design gaps before they become production problems, and producing documentation and Golden MOPs that rollout teams can actually rely on. You will engage directly with stakeholders, which means being able to explain complex technical decisions clearly to people who are not always engineers.

On the tools side you will be working with IXIA, Spirent, Wireshark and TCPdump. Exposure to automation through Python, Ansible, NETCONF/YANG, Cisco ACI or NSO will strengthen your application considerably. If you have worked across EVPN/VXLAN environments that is worth mentioning too.

The technical bar is high. You need strong hands-on experience with BGP, OSPF/IS-IS and MPLS L2/L3 VPNs, proven work across multi-vendor environments, and the ability to own your outcomes without supervision. CCNP, CCIE, JNCIS or JNCIP certification is preferred. So is a degree in Telecommunications, Networking or Engineering.

What the client is really looking for, beyond the technical checklist, is someone with genuine ownership. Someone who cares whether the solution works, not just whether their part of the job is done. You will be working on telecom modernisation programs, IP integration and migration projects, and multi-vendor lab validation environments where the stakes are real and the margin for error is small.
