  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Estimate Pay: $56.00 to $60.00/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80-hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56-hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

Nurse Practitioner will normally work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break - no more than 40 hours a week.

Qualifications

  • Hold a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Have successfully passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Maintain status as a licensed nurse practitioner, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
  • Must proof of current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
  • Must have a current ACLS certification
  • One year of experience providing mid-level provider services in emergency care, acute care, ambulatory/outpatient care, psychiatric care, and/or medical/surgical care

Attire

Nurse Practitioner is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contractor will be performing. The Nurse Practitioner is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type as this is the color clothing the Adults in Custody (AIC) population wear.

Duties and Responsibilities

All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Nurse Practitioner services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations. The Nurse Practitioner shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions. The Nurse Practitioners performance shall be monitored by the Contracting Officers Representative (COR). The Nurse Practitioner must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Nurse Practitioner shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:

  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate population.
  • Conduct medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests, x-ray and other diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnosis and treat patients in an efficient, timely, and professional manner, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications utilizing the Bureau of Prisons formulary.
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
  • Attend to medical emergencies
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed necessary. Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans
  • Assists in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of the health care services
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems
  • Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations NURSE PRACTITIONER SERVICES STATEMENT OF WORK
  • Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician
