Optical Technician Helper located at the Optical Fabrication Lab, Fort Sam Houston, TX.

TYPE OF WORK

• Optician helpers must have a general understanding of optical fabrication processes and must know the general terms and nomenclature used in the fabrication of eyewear to include lens types, lens powers, frame type and other general optical specific products.
• Optical Technician Helpers shall perform duties in support of optical fabrication processes. Task shall include but are not limited to manual lens, fining and polishing, lens de-blocking, lens washing, lens coating, preparing glasses for shipment and shipping. Other assigned duties can include making blocks, washing blocks, and reclaiming free-bond wax.
• Shall perform duties on a rotating basis in support of optical fabrication processes in all production phases of the Optical Fabrication Laboratory, where single vision and multi-focal eyewear is fabricated on a production line basis.
• Must be capable of operating ophthalmic lens-manufacturing devices/equipment in both the surfacing and fabrication sections of the laboratory. Ophthalmic devices/equipment including Surface Blockers, and Lens makers, Lens generators, Lens Surfacers, Lens Station Washers, Lens Coating Machines, Tinting Equipment, Lens Analyzers, Lens Blockers, and 7ES edging machines.
• Job duties may change from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 1 year experience in an optical lab.
• High school diploma or equivalent
• BLS - Basic Life Support
• US Citizen
