Working Hours
The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse will provide services when requested, 5 days per week, excluding Federal Holidays. 160 estimated sessions per week normally consisting of eight (8) hour days, and an optional 120 workdays not to exceed 240 workdays in a 24-month period. Any time worked in day constitutes one (1) workday. Work hours will normally be between 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The contractor employee(s) shall not exceed 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Must be certified to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • 1+ years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • CPR certification in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.

Summary of Duties: Provides comprehensive patient care by conducting histories and physical examinations, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, prescribing medications, performing minor procedures, and responding to medical emergencies in accordance with licensure and institutional policies. Maintains accurate clinical documentation, ensures patient confidentiality and infection control compliance, and collaborates with physicians and healthcare staff to deliver high-quality medical care.

Attire

Required to wear professional business attire or approved scrubs suitable for a correctional healthcare environment; khaki or green scrubs are not permitted. Jeans, T-shirts, tank tops, sandals, sweatpants, and other casual clothing are prohibited.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional

  • standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff
  • Perform Advance Practice Practitioner duties within the scope of the current licensure
  • Administer medications as prescribed i.e., by mouth, intravenously, intradermally,
  • subcutaneously, or intramuscularly
  • Assist with distribution of medications at pill line
  • Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy
  • Perform history and physicals
  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians
  • Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored and disposed of according
  • to institutional and national policy
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures
  • Ability and skill to operate EKG
  • Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
  • Attend to medical emergencies
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed

necessary. Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits
