- Period of Performance: 01 September 2026 – 31 August 2029.
- Type of Employment: Independent Contractor (1099) Agreement.
- Total Compensation: $31.00 per hour.
Summary of Services
The Art Therapist will provide routine journey-level habilitation/rehabilitation therapy work through therapeutic art rehabilitation activities. Services include developing, facilitating, and documenting therapeutic art groups; adapting activities to cognitive, emotional, physical, and psychiatric functioning; promoting engagement, emotional regulation, stress reduction, self-expression, recovery, social skills, communication, problem solving, self-esteem, and coping skills; collaborating with treatment teams; completing clinical documentation; and developing therapeutic art programming.
Working Hours
The Art Therapist shall perform services, including any minor adjustment call-back services, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (Mountain Time). The Art Therapist shall not interfere with the normal flow of Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency business at the service location. The Art Therapist shall respond to all service calls within four (4) hours of HHS Agency request, unless the Response Deadline is extended by the HHS Agency Contract Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in therapeutic rehabilitation required.
- A master's degree or higher in an art or related psychology/mental health field.
- Certification as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Provisional Registered Art Therapist (ATR-Provisional).
Duties and Responsibilities
Therapeutic Group Services
- Develop, facilitate, and document therapeutic art groups designed to address patient treatment goals.
- Adapt group activities to accommodate varying levels of cognitive, emotional, physical, and psychiatric functioning.
- ProAmote patient engagement, emotional regulation, stress reduction, self-expression, and recovery.
- Provide therapeutic activities that support social skills, communication, problem-solving, self-esteem, and coping skill development.
- Ensure all group activities are conducted in accordance with facility safety and security requirements.
Group Art Therapy Services
- Create weekly groups to fit hospital needs and direction.
- Create weekly groups for art appreciation coverage whenever the art therapist is out.
Treatment Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, peer support personnel, and other treatment team members.
- Communicate significant patient concerns, safety risks, behavioral observations, or treatment progress to appropriate staff.
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Complete timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation in accordance with facility policies, licensing requirements, Joint Commission standards, and applicable state regulations.
- Document patient attendance, participation, progress, and response to interventions.
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard all patient information in accordance with HIPAA and applicable privacy regulations.
Program Development
- Develop and maintain therapeutic art programming that supports facility treatment objectives.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of special therapeutic events, recovery activities, exhibits, and patient-centered projects when requested.
- Recommend appropriate art supplies, therapeutic materials, and program enhancements.
- Ensure therapeutic activities align with trauma-informed care principles and recovery-focused practices.
Safety and Infection Control
- Adhere to all facility safety, security, infection control, and emergency preparedness policies.
- Maintain accountability of all art supplies, tools, and materials utilized during sessions.
- Ensure potentially hazardous materials are secured and used according to facility guidelines.
- Immediately report safety concerns, incidents, patient injuries, contraband, or unusual occurrences to designated facility personnel.
Staff Education and Consultation
- Provide consultation regarding therapeutic use of art activities within the treatment environment.
- Assist facility staff in understanding the therapeutic benefits of art-based interventions.
Deliverables
- Scheduled therapeutic art therapy groups.
- Group art therapy services as clinically indicated.
- Clinical documentation completed within required timeframes.
- Attendance records and participation reports.
- Monthly activity summaries and program reports, if requested.
