  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Period of Performance: Estimated start date: 01 June 2026 – 30 May 2031.
  • Estimate Pay: $34.03 – $36.00 per hour based on experience.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

The Ultrasound Technician will normally work Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The Ultrasound Technician will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Summary of Duties

The Ultrasound Technician will provide professional ultrasound services, including diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasonic procedures, to Adults in Custody (AIC) referred to by the Health Services Department at Federal Correctional Complex-Pollock. Services rendered should be professional in nature and consistent with community standards of care.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)-accredited program.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Certification and registration in Sonography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • A minimum of one (2) year of experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.

Attire

The Ultrasound Technician must dress appropriately for the work environment. This includes business attire or scrubs (black and blue scrub uniforms are approved). The attire must be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing. Jeans (of any color), T-shirts, sandals (of any type), tank tops, and sweatpants/shirts

are not considered appropriate professional attire. Federal Correctional Complex-Pollock will not be responsible for providing a uniform allowance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations in DICOM or other approved formats, providing up to 10 studies per clinic session; additional studies will be billed at the agreed per‑study rate.
  • Produce clear, high‑resolution images that meet or exceed FCC Pollock's technical standards and clinical guidelines.
  • Independently determine appropriate technical exposure factors, transducer selection, and patient positioning to ensure optimal diagnostic quality.
  • Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including but not limited to abdominal, vascular, obstetric/gynecologic (if applicable), and musculoskeletal studies.
  • Provide portable/mobile ultrasound services at designated locations within the institution as required.

Interpretation, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Ensure written diagnostic reports are completed and transmitted within 48 hours of procedure completion.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and compliant documentation in accordance with HIPAA, BOP policy, and institutional medical‑record requirements.
  • Identify and document preliminary abnormalities and ensure timely communication with clinical staff when urgent findings are suspected.

Safety, Compliance, and Professional Standards

  • Adhere to all infection‑control, patient‑safety, and equipment‑sanitation protocols established by FCC Pollock and federal healthcare standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of pathological conditions commonly identified through ultrasound imaging and recognize basic emergency situations that may arise during procedures.
  • Comply with all correctional techniques, security protocols, and institutional procedures, including mandatory orientation and ongoing training.
  • Maintain required professional licensure, certifications, and continuing education for sonographers and interpreting radiologists.

Patient Interaction and Care

  • Receive and prepare patients for examinations, providing clear explanations to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with an Adult in Custody (AIC) population representing diverse cultural, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Ensure respectful, trauma‑informed, and professional communication at all times.

Operational Support and Coordination

  • Coordinate with Health Services staff to ensure timely scheduling, workflow efficiency, and minimal disruption to institutional operations.
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment in proper working condition, reporting any malfunctions, calibration needs, or safety concerns promptly.
  • Support quality‑assurance activities, performance improvement initiatives, and compliance reviews as required by the institution.
