CERTIFIED RADIOLOGY TECHNICIAN

  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
  • Period of Performance: Base Year plus four (4) Option Years
  • Estimate Pay: $31.14 - $36.23/hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Education and Experience

  • Shall be fully licensed to perform radiological procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. 
  • Be licensed by the state of Kentucky. 
  • Must have at least three years of experience. 
  • Must possess and submit with their quotation, evidentiary documentation of their graduation from an accredited school of Radiology Technology.
  • Be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Schedule:
Schedule

One (1) session equals one (1) hour of service. A typical workday will consist of six (6) sessions, for an estimate of 30 sessions per week and 1,560 sessions per twelve-month period. Sessions shall be scheduled between the hours of 8:00 A.M and 2:30 P.M., Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The Radiology Technicians' schedule shall not exceed 40 hours per week. The actual hours of work will be determined by the Health Services Administrator and may be adjusted to meet the needs of the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The institution provides a GE Proteus XR/a machine for radiology.

  • Knowledge of GE Proteus XR/a machine equipment is preferred but not required.
  • Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by the medical staff for the AIC population at the institution.
  • Transmit, retrieve X-ray images and reports electronically, and scan reports into the AICs Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Receive training to retrieve radiographic consults from BEMR and schedule them to perform all radiographic procedures.
  • Work with an AIC population from a variety of cultural, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Evaluate radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs.
  • Possess knowledge of basic emergencies that may occur during special radiographic procedures.
  • Schedule exams and maintain records.
  • Possess knowledge of various pathological abnormalities as demonstrated by radiographic imaging.
  • Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions necessary to obtain a proper quality diagnostic exam. Receive patients and explain procedures to alleviate undue anxiety.
  • Independently perform all radiographic procedures; i.e., chest, bone, skull, spine, and portable x-rays, etc.
  • Notify the Radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam, so that additional views or exams can be ordered if needed.
  • Coordinate transfer of patient radiologic records to ensure continuity of care.
  • Work with the Clinical Director to ensure monitoring and evaluation activities are completed.
  • Act as liaison between radiologist and medical staff.
  • Receive training and orientation and comply with correctional techniques as they pertain to medical services.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the local medical protocols.
  • Wear outer protective clothing and obey the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's universal precautions at all times.
  • Function in other duties commensurate with a Radiology Technician.
  • Computerization and printing of the daily log
  • Computerization and printing of exam requisitions
  • Printing of all folders and exam labels
  • Completing all X-ray studies ordered by the medical staff
  • Preparing X-rays for shipment to the radiologist for interpretation
  • Transport of X-rays to the radiologist for interpretation
  • Transport all x-rays from the radiologist after interpretation
  • Assisting the staff with maintenance of equipment and supplies, and notifying staff when supplies are needed
  • Conducting quality assurance tests and daily maintenance on X-ray equipment as needed
  • Assisting with FDA inspections and preparation for TJC and program review as needed
  • Assuring that all X-ray requests are completed properly
  • Computerization of patient logs and repeat analysis

Attire

The contractor is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.
