Job Overview

Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking a Grounds Operative to support grounds maintenance duties during the summer cutting season.

This role will involve working across public parks, schools, playing fields, landscaped areas and other open spaces, helping to deliver a high-quality grounds maintenance service.

The successful candidate must be physically fit, hold a full UK driving licence, live within Carmarthenshire, and be willing to work 43 hours per week during the summer period.

You must hold a full UK driving licence, live within Carmarthenshire, and be willing to work 43 hours per week during the summer cutting season.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out grounds maintenance across parks, schools, playing fields and landscaped areas
  • Complete grass cutting, hedge trimming and general open space maintenance
  • Maintain sports areas and assist with basic setting out and marking of pitches
  • Support upkeep of artificial, synthetic and natural pitches
  • Carry out cleaning duties in parks, playgrounds, open spaces and public facilities
  • Use hand tools, powered vibrating machinery and light plant safely
  • Operate tractors and tractor-mounted equipment where required
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with health and safety policies
  • Check that plant and machinery is roadworthy, safe and in good working order
  • Undertake visual inspections of playground equipment and keep records where required
  • Work with minimal supervision and use own initiative
  • Liaise appropriately with colleagues and members of the public
  • Use PPE issued at all times

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience in gardening, grounds maintenance or grounds person duties
  • Training or experience using grounds maintenance machinery
  • Ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative
  • Ability to follow tasks, duties and set timescales
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to tow trailers
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe working practices
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations
  • Experience using hand tools, powered vibrating machinery and light plant
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to liaise with colleagues and members of the public
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual outdoor work

  • First Aid qualification

Additional Information

This role does not require a DBS check.

Candidates must be willing to work 43 hours per week through the summer cutting season.
