Job Overview
Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking a Cleansing Operative to support waste removal, cleansing and recycling duties across outdoor recreation sites.
The role will involve emptying and sorting refuse containers, collecting fly tipping, litter picking, transporting rubbish to the amenity site, supporting recycling activity and ensuring sites remain clean, safe and presentable.
The successful candidate must be physically fit, hold a full UK driving licence, live within Carmarthenshire, and be flexible enough to work either 07:00–15:00 or 08:00–16:00.

This role requires candidates to be fit, able and in good general health due to the physical nature of waste and cleansing work.
You must hold a full UK driving licence, live within Carmarthenshire, and be flexible enough to work either 07:00–15:00 or 08:00–16:00.

Key Responsibilities
- Empty and sort refuse containers
- Collect fly tipping / illicit tipping
- Carry out litter picking where required
- Take rubbish to the amenity site at the end of rounds
- Drive a vehicle and report all defects
- Ensure the Road Traffic Act is followed at all times when driving
- Encourage and monitor recycling across sites
- Support improvements to recycling procedures
- Report low stock levels to the line manager
- Clean relevant areas in the absence of cleaning staff
- Work in line with health and safety policy and safe systems of work
- Carry out other duties requested by management
Essential Experience & Skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Previous experience working with waste, cleansing, refuse or similar manual duties
- Customer service skills
- Willingness to work in adverse weather
- Knowledge of safe systems of work
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
- Knowledge of refuse rounds
- Local area knowledge
- Understanding of recycling targets or recycling procedures
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Flexible approach to work
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual outdoor duties
Additional Information
This role does not require a DBS check.
Candidates must be living within Carmarthenshire and must be flexible enough to work either 07:00–15:00 or 08:00–16:00.
