Job Overview
Southwark Council is seeking a Driver / Jet Wash Operative to support street cleansing and public hazard response work across the borough.
The role will involve using a high-powered jet wash to clean street issues relating to public hazards, remove graffiti and paint over problem areas where required. The successful candidate will need to work safely in a public-facing outdoor environment, use basic reporting apps on a smartphone and follow instructions accurately.
Candidates must have a driving licence and CPC driving qualification. Hi-vis and boots are required; additional PPE will be provided.

This role requires a driving licence and CPC driving qualification.
You must be comfortable working outdoors, using high-powered jet washing equipment, removing graffiti, painting over issues, reporting jobs through smartphone apps and working early morning shifts Monday to Saturday.
Candidates who cannot work 6 days per week, 06:00–12:00, are unlikely to be suitable.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive as required to support cleansing operations
- Use high-powered jet wash equipment to clean street issues
- Clean public hazard areas safely and effectively
- Remove graffiti from public areas
- Paint over graffiti or related issues where required
- Use smartphone apps to report completed works or issues
- Follow instructions from supervisors and managers
- Wear hi-vis, safety boots and required PPE
- Work safely in public areas and around pedestrians
- Support wider cleansing duties where required
- Maintain good standards of conduct when working in public spaces
- Follow health and safety procedures at all times
- Report issues, hazards or equipment problems promptly
Essential Experience & Skills
- Driving licence
- CPC driving qualification
- Experience in driving, cleansing, street services, jet washing, graffiti removal, manual labour or similar outdoor work
- Comfortable using high-powered jet wash equipment
- Basic smartphone skills
- Ability to use reporting apps
- Comfortable working outdoors in different weather conditions
- Able to follow health and safety procedures
- Reliable and punctual for early starts
- Able to work Monday to Saturday, 06:00–12:00
- Willing to wear hi-vis, boots and PPE
- Good practical/manual work ethic
Desirable
- Manual handling experience
- Previous local authority cleansing or environmental services experience
- Experience removing graffiti
- Experience using pressure washers or jet washing equipment
- Experience painting over graffiti or surface issues
Additional Information
Hi-vis and boots are required. Additional PPE will be provided.
