About the Role
We are looking for a Junior Accountant to join a growing, owner-managed accounting practice. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their accounting career who wants to gain broad, practical exposure and learn directly from an experienced CA(SA).
Because the practice is currently run by the owner, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with him, learn how an accounting practice operates, and gain hands-on experience across multiple clients and accounting functions.
The role offers a flexible, predominantly remote working environment, with limited meetings and a young, entrepreneurial client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Capture and reconcile financial transactions using Xero
- Collect, organise and process client invoices and supporting documentation
- Assist with monthly accounting and financial reporting
- Prepare and process client payroll using SimplePay
- Assist with VAT returns every two months
- Assist with SARS-related submissions and administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records
- Assist with reconciliations and general accounting duties
- Work with the owner to resolve accounting queries and ensure client requirements are met
- Occasionally visit client warehouses or sites where required
- Build knowledge across a range of clients and industries
Requirements
- Relevant accounting qualification or studying towards one
- 1–2 years' experience in an accounting/bookkeeping environment
- Practical experience with Xero is highly advantageous
- Experience with SimplePay would be beneficial
- Good knowledge of SARS requirements and processes is essential
- Understanding of VAT and VAT returns
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- A willingness to learn and develop professionally
