The Opportunity
Our client is looking for a Backend Developer who thrives on solving real-world problems through data and intelligent systems. This is a hands-on coding role for someone who can build robust backend infrastructure while applying strong mathematical reasoning and data interpretation skills. You'll workwith large datasets and complex calculation models to support high impact software used across manufacturing, energy, and environmental contexts
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and NestJS
- Translate complex mathematical models and calculations into efficient and reliable backend services
- Migrate existing SQL-based logic into well-structured, scalable backend systems
- Develop APIs and microservices that support platform functionality
- Query and work with data from MS SQL Server databases
- Collaborate with analysts and frontend developers to integrate analytics and insights into the product
- Optimise backend code and processes for performance and scalability
- Troubleshoot, debug, and validate backend functionality
- Maintain clear documentation for all code, logic, and processes
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in backend development using Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript, and JavaScript
- Strong mathematical and analytical ability comfortable working with formulas, models, and raw data
- Solid understanding of SQL and data structures
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent collaboration and communication abilities
- Ability to work independently within a small, fast paced development team
