KEY OBJECTIVE:

The Accountant is responsible for processing and analyzing all reinsurance activities on specific assigned broker accounts, including written and oral communication with brokers, underwriting, and claims staff for our client. The Accountant will perform high-quality accounting work to ensure accurate financial information and reporting and meet monthly/quarterly closing schedule deadlines.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Verify assigned accounts reported are in accordance with the treaty terms, review the supporting documentation of the account, validate the brokers calculations of CTRs share, and post the account into Genius (R/I accounting system of record);
• Communicate with broker contact regarding overdue accounts, overdue cash, any issues/errors with the account;
• Posting claim payments, claims reserves and reinstatement premiums. Preparing payment instructions;
• Processing all related cash receipts and payments, including verification of broker invoices to record deposits;
• Clearing unallocated cash on a timely basis. Perform follow-up procedures on unallocated cash; ensure all follow-up procedures are clearly documented;
• Process letters of credit and collateral requests as needed. Coordinate with Treasury.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors degree in accounting or finance;
• Experience in the reinsurance/insurance industry considered an asset;
• Strong analytical skills;
• Ability to work on own initiative and to meet monthly/quarterly deadlines;
• Strong knowledge of Excel;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English and French (both written and oral).
