Smelter Operation Readiness - Manager Process Automation

The purpose of this position:

Plan, direct, manage, and control all aspects of Process Automation operation team activities in an effective and efficient manner by implementing and managing automation technologies. Serve as the process automation expert and problem solver for PTFI Manyar Senior Management for the company to achieve production, environmental and safety targets. Manage the Process Automation strategic planning efforts collaboratively with focus on develop and manage automation systems to improve efficiency across various operational processes. Delivery operations to meet operation goal requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Develop, plan, and manage the department's vision, mission, and objectives as guideline for all sections, to integrate automation systems to improve efficiency across various operational processes.
2. Identify and challenge Process Automation (PA) Staff development program throughout the corporation. Programs should be specifically aimed at ensuring that PA staff have the required competencies to meet the business objectives. This involves having and regularly updating PA staff training program and managing associated resources. A key aspect of this function is facilitating regular communication and collaboration with site PA leads, supporting groups, external parties, and the management team.
3. Create consistency and standardization throughout the organization with regards to control systems, process control and automation. This includes assisting sites with transition from antiquated and obsolete systems to implementation and configuration of latest platforms to be able to best optimize existing control assets, The position would also identify and promote industry best practices and implement these by working with site teams and other corporate based functions.
4. Identify, develop, recommend, and implement fit-for-purpose process automation (PA) solutions of company strategic initiatives related to control systems and process measurement, control and optimization. This includes collaborating with internal and external parties to develop a novel device and/or technique or select existing ones to better control and optimize a process.
5. Maintain and expand network of contacts in industry focused on process automation. Actively participates in relevant industry events, conferences, training. Stay up to date with the latest advancements and trends and recommending new practices or changes to programs based on state of practice developments.
6. Implement PTFI and Operation policies & procedures and direct the requisitioning and to support maintenance, operations, and support departments in Manyar, using principles of Management to ensure cost effective and efficient operational support.
7. Plan, develop, manage, and be accountable for the end results of all aspects of the management operation to Conduct regular audits and adjustments to optimize productivity and reduce downtime.
8. Direct and manage the review budget for automation projects, including forecasting costs and tracking expenses. is secure and implement robust planning processes and reporting tools to ensure constant process automation so that operations are not disrupted.
9. Liaise, coordinate, and communicate with other PTFI senior Management and all Jobsite departments, the goals, policies, standards, and procedures for areas controlled and managed by the Process Automation department to ensure a smooth effective flow of information and reliable service.
10. Direct, plan, and control the training and development of Staff and Non-Staff employees to support an efficient, productive, and cost-effective departmental operation.
11. Work with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and develop project scopes and requirements.
12. Promote, measure and lead by example in PTFI Manyar Safety, Health and Environmental Policy execution to ensure the safe operation of the department and the health and welfare of all employees.
13. Implement measurements and standards to measure functional area and overall performance including RCA and implement corrective actions to improve as necessary.
14. Manage the budget for automation projects, including forecasting costs and tracking expenses.

Qualifications

1. Bachelors degree or masters degree in engineering, or related field, and 15-years of experience in mineral process control engineering related fields; or Diploma in Instrumentation and Control, or Automation discipline with more than 20-year industrial experience
2. Experience in leading a Process Automation team, maintaining and improving control systems, using regulatory and advanced process control applications and relevant tools
3. Operating and process control background; ideally having worked in metallurgy engineering, plant operations, process control, and IT groups
4. Understanding of the processes that are being optimized, the in-plant equipment that sends the signals to the control system, the maintenance practices that are required to calibrate and maintain the signals, the practices required to program and optimize the process, and an understanding of the computer hardware that is controlling the system
5. Understand the IT compliance issues and can communicate with the IT specialist relative to their technical expertise

9. Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.
