About the role
We are looking for an Application Developer who will be responsible for the design, creation, testing and documenting of new and amended programs from supplied specifications in accordance with agreed standards of the customer. The provision of application maintenance and support services, either directly to users of the applications or to service delivery functions, and lead application maintenance and support team.
This role reports into the Practice Leader and can based in Sydney / Adelaide or Melbourne. This role requires you work in a hybrid working environment.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Contributes to Applications Support and Development team for Web-based Java/J2EE applications, primarily built using the Struts framework
- Designs or undertakes impact analysis of medium size solutions or partial solutions within a large established architecture.
- Schedules and monitors own work, minimal escalation of problems and queries.
- Owns and produces project plans for medium size solutions or partial solutions.
- May schedule and monitor the work of others in team management situation.
- Collates and is responsible for proposals and bids of which some work packages will be undertaken by others. This may also include responses to change requests.
- Contributes to solution reviews.
- Produces high quality solutions and documentation using a structured approach for problems with medium complexity.
- Has identified and implemented ways to exceed customer expectation.
- Fluently presents complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences both orally and in writing.
- Can give clear and concise instructions to those that they are providing guidance to.
- Communicates issues in a timely manner.
- Influences own team by leading team meetings, peer review of deliverables etc.
- Influences and creates a positive impact outside of their own team, e.g., by contributing to other team meetings, peer review of deliverables from other teams etc.
- Works influentially with the customer to discover, document and prioritize requirements.
- Adheres to corporate and local methodologies as appropriate.
- Adheres to corporate and local processes.
- Has played a lead role in developing and/or tailoring local processes.
- Keep abreast of technology developments within their own specialism.
- Contribute to and support CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps practices
- Use Docker for containerisation and image management where applicable
- Lead or contribute to peer reviews, including Crucible code reviews, ensuring adherence to standards
- Use JIRA for issue tracking, workflow management, and agile delivery
Requirements and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Technical competencies
- Significant demonstrable industry experience in software analysis, design and development in MVC framework preferably in Java/JEE , Struts and EJB
- Demonstrable industry experience with SQL, and use Oracle database in applications
- Experience with shell and Perl Scripting, Unix/ Linux OS
- Experience in using Application Servers such as IBM WebSphere
- Demonstrable industry experience in version controlling and automation of build, integration and build
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and deployment tooling
- Experience using Docker for containerisation and image management
- Experience using JIRA or a similar tool for issue tracking and agile delivery
- Experience using Crucible or a similar tool for peer code reviews
- Qualifications - Tertiary qualifications in the field of computer science or equivalent
