ABOUT THE PROJECT
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Safety Officer to oversee health and safety on the refurbishment of a Pharmaceutical Depot. This is a high-sensitivity environment requiring strict safety protocols for construction activities, material handling, and working within an operational pharmaceutical storage facility.
The successful candidate must be based in Kimberley and be available for site duty from day one.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement and monitor the Site-Specific Safety Plan for the refurbishment project.
Conduct daily risk assessments for refurbishment activities (e.g., demolition, electrical works, scaffolding, painting, flooring, and HVAC installation).
Ensure compliance with OHSA, Construction Regulations 2014, and depot-specific pharmaceutical safety requirements.
Manage safety for contractors, sub-contractors, and depot personnel in shared working zones.
Inspect all access points, fall protection, dust control, and fire prevention measures.
Investigate incidents and near-misses; submit reports to the Principal Contractor and Client.
Conduct daily tool-box talks and site inductions for all refurbishment staff.
Maintain a complete safety file, including legal appointments, risk registers, and daily logbooks.
Liaise with the Depot Safety Representative regarding restricted zones, hazardous goods, and emergency procedures.
Stop any unsafe work immediately and report to Project Management.
REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety qualification.
SACPCMP registration as a Safety Officer (Construction) – mandatory.
Minimum 3–5 years' experience on building refurbishment, renovation, or retrofitting projects.
Must be based in Kimberley or able to report to the Depot within 24 hours of offer acceptance.
Valid driver's licence and own transport.
Working knowledge of construction regulations, fall protection plans, and hazardous chemical handling.
First Aid Level 2 and Fire Fighting certificates.
Desirable:
Experience working on pharmaceutical, healthcare, or cleanroom refurbishments.
Knowledge of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) for pharmaceutical storage.
ISO 45001 or 14001 internal auditor training.
HIRA and Incident Investigation certification.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

Ability to manage safety in a live, sensitive operational environment.
