About the job General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer
Our client is a prominent real estate developer in China and is a publicly listed company on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and is currently seeking a General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer to join the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in major company decision-making discussions, providing professional opinions and suggestions.
- Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect the company's interests and mitigate risks.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and government requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external legal advisors, and government authorities to resolve legal issues and disputes.
- Conduct legal research and stay informed on legal developments and industry trends relevant to property development.
- Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Assist with legal matters related to company restructuring.
- Review documents, understand arbitration details, and collaborate with the legal team to handle company arbitration matters.
- Support the company in due diligence processes related to property acquisitions and disposals.
- Assist sales and marketing colleagues in reviewing and amending contracts.
- Provide training to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
- Interact with regulatory bodies and government agencies to address legal and regulatory issues.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Master's degree in Law; 15+ years of experience as a barrister and solicitor.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Hong Kong laws, regulations, and government procedures.
- Strong business mindset with a strategic approach to legal matters.
- Proven track record in a similar legal role, preferably within the property development sector.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in both English and Chinese and Putonghua (written and spoken).
- Qualified to practice law in Hong Kong.
