General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer

Our client is a prominent real estate developer in China and is a publicly listed company on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, and is currently seeking a General Counsel / Chief Legal Officer to join the team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in major company decision-making discussions, providing professional opinions and suggestions.
• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect the company's interests and mitigate risks.
• Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and government requirements.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external legal advisors, and government authorities to resolve legal issues and disputes.
• Conduct legal research and stay informed on legal developments and industry trends relevant to property development.
• Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Assist with legal matters related to company restructuring.
• Review documents, understand arbitration details, and collaborate with the legal team to handle company arbitration matters.
• Support the company in due diligence processes related to property acquisitions and disposals.
• Assist sales and marketing colleagues in reviewing and amending contracts.
• Provide training to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters.
• Interact with regulatory bodies and government agencies to address legal and regulatory issues.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Master's degree in Law; 15+ years of experience as a barrister and solicitor.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Hong Kong laws, regulations, and government procedures.
• Strong business mindset with a strategic approach to legal matters.
• Proven track record in a similar legal role, preferably within the property development sector.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in both English and Chinese and Putonghua (written and spoken).
• Qualified to practice law in Hong Kong.
