Middleton Group is seeking a Senior Project Manager (Data Centres) with demonstrable experience in the planning and delivery of mission-critical infrastructure, ideally within the data centre sector. You will bring a strong understanding of high-reliability power systems, grid connection processes, and the commercial drivers underpinning hyperscale and colocation developments.
Specifically, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience delivering data centre projects (hyperscale, colocation, edge or enterprise), particularly with significant electrical infrastructure components (HV/MV substations, embedded generation, BESS, or grid connections).
- Experience managing complex stakeholder environments including network service providers (DNSPs/TNSPs), AEMO, regulators, developers, contractors, and global operators.
- Demonstrated capability managing large-scale electrical infrastructure packages, including HV substations, switching stations, 66 kV–220 kV connections, or equivalent.
- Commercial acumen in capital-intensive projects, including risk allocation, programme compression strategies, procurement sequencing, and contractor interface management.
- An understanding of high-availability power architectures (N, N+1, 2N, 2N+1) and the implications these have on design, cost, constructability, and programme would be highly regarded.
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (electrical, civil, structural, planning, environmental) while maintaining accountability for programme, budget, and technical outcomes.
- Strong client-facing capability with experience supporting investment decisions, feasibility studies, due diligence, and board-level reporting.
- A growth mindset, with the ability to identify and convert opportunities within the rapidly expanding data centre and digital infrastructure market.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical preferred), or equivalent tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
- 10+ years' experience in infrastructure project delivery, with a significant portion within:
- Data centres,
- Major HV electrical infrastructure,
- Grid connection advisory or delivery,
- Or other mission-critical environments.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects with IT loads in the multi-MW to 100MW+ range, or equivalent high-capacity electrical infrastructure.
- Experience working within Australian electricity market frameworks (e.g. connection enquiry processes, R0/R1 studies, AEMO modelling requirements) is highly regarded.
- Strong commercial management capability, including cost forecasting, margin control, contract administration, and risk management.
- Experience managing consultant and contractor performance across complex technical scopes.
- Professional registration (RPEV, CPEng or equivalent) desirable but not mandatory.
- Advanced stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including executive-level reporting.
