With a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, Fyfe is expanding its Power & Electrification capability and is seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer to play a key leadership role in shaping and delivering high-quality technical outcomes.
The Opportunity
You will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, civil, geotechnical, Architectural and building services) to ensure efficient and integrated design delivery.
Responsibilities
- Undertake structural design and analysis of HV substation and transmission line structures including lattice towers, poles, plinths, gantries and associated structures and foundations.
- Prepare design calculations, reports, and engineering deliverables in line with project and client requirements.
- Carry out structural assessments of existing HV substation and transmission line infrastructure for upgrades and modifications.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, civil, geotechnical, Architectural, and building services) to ensure efficient and integrated design delivery.
- Review drawings and provide input to ensure structural integrity and constructability.
- Provide support during construction, including responding to RFIs and site-related queries.
- Contribute to maintaining quality, consistency, and timely delivery of engineering outputs.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Demonstrated industry experience (5+ years) in structural design, including relevant experience in HV transmission lines, substations or similar infrastructure projects.
- Solid understanding of structural behaviour under wind, earthquake, permanent and imposed loading conditions.
- Experience in the design of steel structures (e.g. platforms, buildings, gantries, transmission structures) and foundations (e.g. pad footings, bored piles).
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g. PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE, SPACE GASS).
- Experience to transmission line design tools such as PLS-CADD, including line routing, profiling, and tower spotting.
- Understanding of conductor behaviour (sag, tension, clearances) and its impact on structural loading.
- Ability to coordinate and integrate line design outputs with structural design requirements.
- Experience in producing alignment drawings and supporting design documentation.
- Working knowledge of Australian standards and willingness to develop in utility-specific requirements.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
