Our Energy and Resources Engineering Division delivers specialist mining, energy, hydrogen and renewable energy projects across the country. These include process plant modifications, upstream flowlines, well leases, network gathering systems, major gas transmission pipelines, above ground processing facilities, as well as hydrogen and renewable energy facilities.

About the Role:

As a senior member of Fyfes Project Delivery team, the Project Controls Lead is responsible for implementing and championing best-practice project controls across a diverse portfolio in the oil and gas, Infrastructure, and mining and minerals sectors. The role ensures robust systems are in place for cost, schedule, and risk management, while also supporting key commercial functions such as forecasting, performance reporting, and variation preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup, implementation, and continuous improvement of project controls frameworks covering cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project, aligned with execution and resourcing strategies.
  • Maintain accurate cost control systems, including budgets, commitments, actuals, forecasts, and earned value metrics using Fyfes internal Tracking tool.
  • Extract, transform and load cost and time performance metrics to generate Project controls metrics.
  • Review and evaluate time sheet entries and identify trends, value and waste.
  • Prepare and update monthly cost forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and corrective actions in collaboration with Project Managers and Finance.
  • Support the preparation, review, and submission of contract variations, including cost and schedule justifications.
  • Track scope changes and assess impacts to cost and schedule; ensure updates are reflected in the project baseline.
  • Produce accurate and timely reports and dashboards using Power BI, Excel, and internal systems.
  • Manage monthly project review cycles, including schedule updates, cost variance analysis, and forecast accuracy reviews.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project controls tools, templates, and standard operating procedures.
  • Mentor project controls personnel and support professional development across the team.
  • Assist with bid support including CTR breakdowns, estimating inputs, and planning deliverables.

Key Projects and Sectors

  • Oil & Gas Infrastructure: pipelines, terminals, and facilities spanning the upstream-to-downstream spectrum.
  • Civil & Utilities Infrastructure: energy, transport, and water projects.
  • Mining & Minerals Infrastructure: and materials handling

Skills and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in project controls within engineering, EPCM, or consultancy settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage integrated cost and schedule controls on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • High proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, and Excel (including macros/VBA).
  • Strong understanding of project change control and contractual variation processes.
  • Proven experience producing and communicating cost and schedule forecasts.
  • Commercial understanding of resource-based pricing, SoRs, and FP contracts.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and coordination skills.
  • Experience working under client governance frameworks (e.g., Santos, BHP, APA, Viva Energy etc.) is highly regarded.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • PMI, PMP, or equivalent project controls/cost management certification (preferred).
