Daily Nanny | Wallingford | South Oxfordshire

Role: One-year fixed-term, daily, live-out nanny, sole charge

Schedule: 8am to 6pm, with some shorter hours in term-time as the little one begins nursery. (Approx 44 hours during term-time and 50 hours during school holidays)

A family based near Wallingford in South Oxfordshire are seeking an experienced, warm, nurturing, self-sufficient, and self-motivated nanny for their three-year-old daughter. She begins school in September 2027, hence why the role is advertised as a one-year fixed term. It is possible that the family may wish to continue the nanny role with reduced hours once their daughter has started school, but this cannot be guaranteed at this point. Their previous nanny was a Norland NQN – she left on very good terms to go travelling. They are hoping to find someone with a similar level of skill and confidence.

Their daughter is bright, happy, healthy and very lively, and she is the centre of her parents' world. She thrives on a structured routine and her daily nap, so the days are built around this. A typical day is nursery or a local group in the morning, then a nap and lunch, an afternoon activity and tea, and winding down before the parents take over the bedtime routine. Afternoons are usually at home, playing inside or in the large garden, or doing activities that support her development, with the occasional outing depending on timings and energy levels.

In term time she attends nursery currently on Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings. The nursery is attached to a school around 12km away, with roughly 20 weeks of holiday a year. The nanny would drive her to and from nursery in the family car, so a confident driver is essential.

The family are taking a child-led, gentle approach to parenting and would love a like-minded nanny who is happy to work collaboratively with them. They are looking for someone who gives their daughter genuine love and attention and who really cares about her development. Both parents are working professionals and work from home for most of the week. They like to see her during the working day, have lunch with her and the nanny, and do the bedtime routine themselves. The right person will be comfortable running the day independently with parents around, without needing to be managed.

The family home is in a small village, a lovely house with a large garden overlooking the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Thames runs along the bottom of the garden, where there is a private mooring. The setting is rural but well connected, close to the main roads to Oxford, Reading, Henley and London, and the village is served by buses.

No travel with the family is needed.

The family would appreciate a nanny who is happy to take bank holidays and the rest of their holiday during Christmas and the school holidays, so they can take time off together without their daughter missing nursery. With around 20 weeks of nursery holiday a year, there should be plenty of mutually convenient dates.

Requirements

• Childcare qualifications – ideally Norland or similar
• Solid nanny experience with toddlers and preschoolers, ideally in sole-charge roles
• Good understanding of child development and ability to plan activities to support the development
• Self-sufficient and self-motivated, comfortable leading the day with parents at home and working closely with them
• Meal planning and confident cook – with lunches the whole family (and the nanny) can enjoy together
• Confident, licensed driver, using the family's car
