URGENT: Senior Unity Multiplayer Networking & Optimization Engineer (Photon PUN2); Contract (~3+ Months); Pitch your Rate & Availability (Open Bid; Part-Time Considered)

Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Unity Developer to join our team working on Benny’s Backrooms, a multiplayer game currently in development. This role is focused on networking stability, performance optimization, and ensuring a smooth player experience.

This is a contract role for up to 3 months, with the possibility of extension or opportunities on new projects afterward.

Top tier talent with part-time availability may be considered if we feel confident you can produce reliable results.  Also, we may hire 2 people for this role, depending on their availability, skill/experience levels, rates, etc.  

We're looking for people highly confident in working on a networked multiplayer game that is in the late stages of production, but needs stability and performance improvements quickly and reliably so we can release the game with confidence and player satisfaction.

Your Mission

  • Strengthen and improve our multiplayer networking systems (Photon PUN2).
  • Use Unity Profiler and other tools to identify performance issues, memory bottlenecks, and stability concerns.
  • Implement solutions to improve framerates, reduce crashes, mitigate desync issues, and polish overall performance.
  • Share insights and recommendations on improving multiplayer development practices to help our studio level up for the future.
  • Help us successfully ship the game and provide post-launch support during the contract period.

What We Need

  • Strong Unity experience with a focus on multiplayer networking systems (Photon’s PUN2 for this particular project).
  • Proven track record of optimizing games for performance and stability using Unity Profiler or similar tools. (Especially online networked games.)
  • Self-starter who can work independently, manage tasks effectively, and drive results without heavy oversight.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills while working within a small team.
  • Background in QA or QA-focused development is a plus.

Compensation
