About the Role

Our client, a leading consulting and advisory firm, is seeking an experienced Enterprise & Business Development Officer to drive the growth of its Uganda portfolio through strategic partnerships, enterprise support, stakeholder engagement, and market development.
This is a highly visible, growth-focused role that combines business development, partnership building, enterprise advisory, and program implementation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying new opportunities, strengthening strategic relationships, supporting MSMEs, and expanding access to markets and financing.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with enterprise development programs, donor-funded initiatives, value chain development, and business advisory services within the Ugandan market.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Partnership Management
- Identify and pursue new business, partnership, and program opportunities within Uganda.
- Develop and maintain relationships with government institutions, donors, development agencies, private-sector organizations, and ecosystem partners.
- Support proposal writing, concept note development, and donor engagement activities.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of new projects and strategic partnerships.
- Conduct market assessments to identify opportunities for growth and portfolio expansion.
Enterprise Development & MSME Support
- Provide business advisory services to MSMEs, cooperatives, and entrepreneurs.
- Support enterprises in improving business models, operational efficiency, financial management, and investment readiness.
- Guide businesses through formalization processes and compliance requirements.
- Connect enterprises with financing opportunities, including credit facilities, insurance, and other financial products.
- Support entrepreneurs in accessing market information, digital tools, and e-commerce opportunities.
Value Chain Development
- Conduct value chain assessments to identify constraints and growth opportunities.
- Strengthen market linkages between producers, buyers, aggregators, and off-takers.
- Support enterprises in improving product quality, value addition, and supply chain efficiency.
- Promote collaborative business models that enhance market competitiveness.
Training, Mentorship & Capacity Building
- Design and facilitate training programs on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business growth, and digital transformation.
- Mentor entrepreneurs on business planning, financial management, and operational sustainability.
- Build the capacity of local trainers, field teams, and partner organizations.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend improvements.
Monitoring, Reporting & Program Management
- Maintain accurate records of enterprise support activities and stakeholder engagements.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret program data.
- Prepare technical reports, case studies, impact assessments, and donor reports.
- Monitor performance indicators and recommend program improvements.
- Ensure compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and ethical standards.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate should have:
- A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
- At least five (5) years of experience in enterprise development, business development, MSME support, or market systems development.
- Demonstrated experience supporting small and medium-sized enterprises through business advisory services.
- Proven experience in partnership development, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management.
- Strong understanding of Uganda's enterprise ecosystem and value chains.
- Experience designing and delivering training and capacity-building programs.
- Excellent facilitation, coaching, and mentorship skills.
- Strong proposal-writing and business development skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
- The ability to manage multiple stakeholders and work independently.
