Location: Johannesburg or Cape Town (Hybrid)
Role Overview: We are seeking a technically strong and highly reliable Senior Tax Accountant to support our clients U.S. tax team remotely. This role is ideal for someone with excellent experience in U.S. tax preparation, strong accounting knowledge, and the ability to deliver consistent, high-quality work with minimal supervision. We are looking for someone who can handle complex tax filings, communicate clearly with internal team members, and maintain accountability for assigned deliverables.
Requirements:
- Prepare U.S. tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, and LLCs.
- Work with internal team leads to meet filing deadlines and provide timely updates.
- Review and reconcile accounting data provided via QuickBooks Online and other sources.
- Prepare tax workpapers, schedules, and documentation for review.
- Assist with cross-border compliance such as Form 5471, FBAR, and PFIC reporting (training/support provided if needed).
- Maintain internal tracking tools and follow procedures for consistent, up-to-date deliverables.
- Ensure work is well-organized, accurate, and presented in a way that enables easy review and finalization.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in U.S. tax preparation within a public accounting firm (CPA practice)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. tax for businesses and individuals
- Ability to prepare tax returns independently and meet U.S. tax season deadlines
- Comfortable working with cloud-based tools (e.g. Lacerte, QuickBooks Online, Google Workspace)
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to manage own tasks without oversight
- Strong attention to detail, consistency, and follow-through
- Familiarity with international components such as Form 5471, FBAR, and PFICs is ideal but willingness and ability to learn is essential.
