Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Financial Accountant to join our Lahore-based team and support our UK accountancy practice. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing bookkeeping, preparing statutory financial statements, handling VAT returns, and supporting the overall accounting requirements of UK-based clients.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong experience in UK accounting practices, HMRC regulations, VAT compliance, and accounting software. The candidate should be capable of working independently, managing multiple client accounts, reviewing financial information, and ensuring all work is completed accurately and within deadlines.
The successful candidate will initially be offered a three-month probation period. Upon satisfactory performance, there will be an opportunity for a long-term position within the team.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage and review accurate and up-to-date financial records for UK-based clients using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage.
- Prepare and review statutory financial statements in accordance with UK accounting standards, including FRS 102 and FRS 105.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with UK HMRC regulations, including Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
- Manage multiple client accounts and ensure all accounting, reporting, and compliance deadlines are met.
- Communicate directly with UK-based clients to collect financial information, resolve accounting queries, and provide professional support.
- Lead and support year-end accounting procedures, audits, and the preparation of working papers and supporting documentation.
- Review bookkeeping and financial records to identify discrepancies, errors, and compliance issues.
- Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members where required.
- Stay updated with changes in UK tax legislation, accounting standards, VAT regulations, and HMRC requirements.
- Support the improvement of internal accounting processes and ensure high-quality service delivery to clients.
Skills and Experience Required
- 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting, financial reporting, or UK accountancy practice.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, ACCA, or a related field. ACCA qualified, finalist, or part-qualified candidates will be preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of UK accounting standards.
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT, HMRC requirements, and Making Tax Digital (MTD).
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage.
- Previous experience working with UK-based clients or UK accounting firms is highly preferred.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple clients and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in reviewing financial statements and mentoring junior team members will be an advantage.
