Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Welding: Perform MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding on a diverse range of materials, preferably including carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and copper alloys.
- Material Expertise: Demonstrate proficiency in welding techniques specific to each material, understanding their unique properties and weldability.
- Drawings Reading: Accurately read and interpret drawings, and specifications to determine weld requirements, material types, and weld procedures.
- Preparation: Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, grinding, fitting, and preheating as necessary, ensuring proper surface preparation for optimal weld quality.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate and maintain welding equipment, including MIG and TIG machines, grinders, and other related tools. Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs.
- Quality Control: Inspect welds for defects (porosity, cracks, undercut, etc.) using visual inspection and, when required, non-destructive testing methods. Ensure welds meet quality standards and dimensional tolerances.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and move materials using appropriate equipment (e.g., forklifts)
- Collaboration: Work effectively with other team members, including engineers, fabricators, and quality control personnel, to complete projects efficiently.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of welding activities, materials used, and quality control inspections.
- Parameter Adjustment: Experience modifying welding parameters (voltage, amperage, travel speed, gas flow, etc.) to achieve desirable Heat Affected Zones (HAZ) and depth of penetration, based on material type and weld requirements.
- Fixture Creation: Fabricate simple to moderately complex fixtures and jigs to accurate position and hold parts during the welding process, ensuring consistent weld quality and repeatability. This may involve cutting, grinding, and welding.
- Robotic Welding Support (Preferred): Assist with the setup and troubleshooting of robotic welding systems, including verifying weld programs and making minor adjustments as needed. May involve some manual welding to support robotic processes or for parts not suitable for automation.
Qualifications (Required)
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a MIG & TIG welder.
- Education: High School diploma, GED, or technical certificate
- Skills:
- Expert proficiency in MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding processes.
- Demonstrated experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and copper alloys.
- Strong understanding of welding principles, techniques, and metallurgy related to various materials.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and welding symbols.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.
- Proven ability to adjust welding parameters to optimize weld quality and meet specific requirements.
Certifications (Preferred):
- AWS (American Welding Society) certification in MIG and/or TIG welding.
