Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Locum Equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our practice in Sherborne. This role involves working 5 days per week with shifts from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM, along with weekend on-call duties. The position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of equine cases, providing high-quality veterinary care to horses in a supportive and professional environment.

Location: Sherborne
Work Schedule: 5 days per week
Shifts: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM
Weekends: On-call involvement

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform consultations, diagnosis, and treatments for a wide range of equine cases.
  • Conduct routine and emergency procedures, including surgeries, as required.
  • Provide excellent communication and advice to horse owners regarding treatment plans and post-care.
  • Participate in weekend on-call rota to provide emergency coverage.
  • Work collaboratively with the veterinary team to ensure high standards of equine care.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine with current registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
  • Proven experience in equine veterinary practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on client service and animal welfare.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and under pressure, particularly during on-call emergencies.
  • Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in equine medicine and surgery.
