Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

Schedule: Monday to Friday | 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM PH

Job Summary

The Senior Electrical Estimator is responsible for managing the full estimating lifecycle for commercial and residential electrical projects. This role involves reviewing tender documentation, performing detailed quantity take-offs, preparing accurate cost estimates, evaluating tender opportunities, and ensuring a seamless handover of awarded projects to the Project Management team.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in securing profitable projects by delivering competitive, accurate, and commercially sound estimates while maintaining compliance with Australian construction and electrical industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Estimating & Costing

  • Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and project requirements to determine scope and pricing requirements.
  • Prepare accurate quantity take-offs, labour calculations, and project cost estimates.
  • Develop detailed pricing proposals and estimate submissions for commercial and residential electrical projects.
  • Identify project risks, assumptions, exclusions, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company objectives.
  • Maintain estimating records, pricing databases, and historical cost information.

2. Tender Management & Evaluation

  • Manage the complete tender process from document review through final submission.
  • Analyse tender opportunities and assess project feasibility, profitability, and resource requirements.
  • Evaluate builders, tender packages, and project opportunities to determine bid suitability.
  • Perform tender filtering and selection activities based on project criteria and business objectives.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and supporting information.
  • Prepare and compile tender documentation within required deadlines.

3. Scope Development & Project Handover

  • Develop detailed scopes of work based on project specifications and tender requirements.
  • Clearly document inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and identified risks.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to validate pricing and scope accuracy.
  • Complete comprehensive handovers of awarded projects to Project Managers.
  • Provide clear communication of project budgets, assumptions, risks, and scope requirements.
  • Support Project Managers during project commencement and transition phases.

4. Risk Analysis & Commercial Review

  • Identify commercial, technical, and operational risks during the estimating process.
  • Review project documentation for compliance with Australian construction and electrical standards.
  • Recommend value engineering and cost optimisation opportunities where appropriate.
  • Monitor supplier pricing, market trends, and industry conditions affecting project costs.
  • Ensure all estimates align with company pricing strategies and commercial objectives.

5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work closely with Project Managers, builders, suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in tender review meetings and project planning discussions.
  • Communicate pricing recommendations, tender outcomes, and estimating considerations effectively.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with key industry contacts.
  • Provide estimating expertise and support across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in estimating and project management platforms such as GroundPlan, SimPro, EstimateOne, Procore, or similar software.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Experience conducting detailed quantity take-offs and preparing cost estimates.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of electrical materials, labour costing, project budgeting, and pricing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Australian construction standards, electrical regulations, and estimating practices.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Electrical Estimating, primarily within commercial construction projects.
  • Exposure to residential electrical projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full estimating lifecycle, from tender review and take-offs through project handover.
  • Proven experience in tender evaluation, builder assessment, and bid filtering.
  • Experience working with Australian construction projects and electrical contracting environments preferred.
  • Electrical Engineering degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification preferred.
