Senior Tax Accountant (Australian Tax)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with strong Australian tax and compliance expertise to join our growing team. This role will suit a professional who is confident managing multiple tax engagements, working closely with clients, and supporting junior staff.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or any related field.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Australian tax and accounting.
  • Proven experience preparing financial statements and tax returns across multiple entity types.
  • Strong understanding of Australian taxation and compliance requirements.

Skills & Systems

  • Proficient in CCH & Thomson legal technical libraries and Microsoft Office; experience with Xero is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence liaising with clients, the ATO, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage deadlines effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review income tax returns, tax calculations, and financial reports across a range of entity types including companies, trusts, and individuals
  • Manage taxation engagements end-to-end, ensuring work is completed in line with quality standards, budgets, and deadlines
  • Review workpapers and tax files, ensuring compliance with Australian tax legislation and internal quality control standards
  • Provide technical tax support and draft tax advice for Partner/Director review
  • Assist in the preparation of tax notes, DTA/DTL, ITE/PIT, and other supporting schedules as required
  • Liaise confidently with clients, the ATO, and external stakeholders to resolve queries and progress engagements
  • Identify taxation risks, compliance issues, and opportunities to add value for clients
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide on-the-job training to junior and cadet staff
  • Stay up to date with changes in Australian tax law and apply them in practical client situations
