The Senior Accountant supports the Finance Manager in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records. The role is responsible for general ledger management, payroll processing, financial reporting, and the review of accounting work prepared by the accounting team. The Senior Accountant assists in financial analysis, compliance, audits, and process improvements to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate accounting operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA license or equivalent professional accounting certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or multi‑entity environment.
- Proficient in Xero and Sprout Payroll.
- Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling, reconciliation, and analysis.
- Experience in payroll systems and understanding of payroll regulations and labor laws.
- Experience with general ledger management, financial reporting, and payroll processing.
- Prior experience reviewing and supervising accounting team output is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with statutory compliance, audits, and internal control processes.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP or IFRS, depending on jurisdiction) and financial reporting standards.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Ability to support audits, prepare schedules, and ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
General Ledger Management and Financial Reporting:
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and other adjusting entries.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year‑end closing procedures.
- Prepare and review key account reconciliations, including:
- Bank reconciliations
- Accounts receivable schedules
- Accounts payable schedules
- Payroll liabilities
- Accruals and prepayments
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and supporting schedules for Finance Manager review.
- Assist in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation for audit purposes.
Payroll Administration:
- Prepare and process semi‑monthly payroll accurately and on time in accordance with company policies and applicable labor regulations.
- Prepare payroll registers, payroll summaries, and supporting schedules for Finance Manager review and approval.
- Coordinate with HR on employee movements affecting payroll, such as:
- New hires
- Resignations and final pay
- Salary adjustments and employee data changes
- Address payroll‑related inquiries and coordinate with HR as needed.
- Ensure proper recording of payroll-related journal entries and payroll liabilities.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of payroll records and employee compensation data.
Review of Accounting Team Output:
- Review work prepared by the accounting team, including:
- Billing and Accounts Receivable
- Disbursements and Accounts Payable
- Tax compliance schedules
- Ensure all transactions are properly supported with complete documentation.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to junior accounting staff.
Financial Planning, Analysis, and Budget Support:
- Assist the Finance Manager in preparing financial forecasts and projections.
- Support the preparation of departmental and operational budgets by gathering and validating financial data.
- Monitor actual expenses against approved budgets and assist in identifying variances.
- Assist in analyzing historical financial data to support forecasting and decision‑making.
Compliance, Audit Support, and Internal Controls:
- Assist in ensuring compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
- Review supporting schedules and documentation required for tax filings and statutory reports.
- Maintain organized accounting records to support internal and external audits.
- Assist the Finance Manager during financial and tax audits by preparing schedules and documentation.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting accounting and payroll operations.
- Support initiatives that improve finance processes and strengthen internal controls.
