Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Network Specialist with strong expertise in VTAM, TCP/IP, OSA, and related mainframe communication subsystems. The role involves installation, upgrades, maintenance, subsystem configuration, and support. The consultant will work across network protocols, file transfer tools, session management utilities, and print server products, while ensuring accurate documentation, smooth operations, and high availability of systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, upgrade, and maintain VTAM, TCP/IP, OSA, and related mainframe communication products.
- Utilize SMPE for software installation, maintenance, and patching.
- Interface with operations teams to review logs, automation jobs, and support activities.
- Perform backup and recovery tasks for subsystems.
- Manage resource definitions, security configurations, and administration tasks.
- Support networking components including printer configuration, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, and related protocols.
- Work with TCP/IP, SNA, VTAM, APPN/Enterprise Extender, and file transfer tools such as Connect Direct.
- Support session management products (TPX, Teleview, CL/Supersession).
- Manage network monitoring tools such as Netview and NetMaster/TCPIP.
- Support print server products like VPS.
- Develop and enhance automation using REXX coding.
- Perform GDPS setup and configuration.
- Ensure all tasks are completed with proper documentation updates.
- Balance multiple activities including support and project work.
- Communicate clearly with teams and stakeholders at all levels.
Required Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience working in mainframe environments.
- Strong experience with VTAM, TCP/IP, OSA, and related networking tools.
- Proficiency with SMPE and subsystem maintenance.
- Knowledge of SNA, APPN, file transfer products, session managers, and monitoring tools.
- Experience with GDPS setup and configuration.
- Proficiency in REXX scripting.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Technology/Engineering.
