About the job Accounting & Reporting Expert
Description/Role: You will join the Technical Accounting & Quality Assurance team, acting as a key expert ensuring that all accounting practices comply with IFRS and US GAAP standards. You operate as a central advisory function across finance, bridging business, accounting, and reporting, while ensuring high-quality financial reporting in a complex international environment.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze and assess complex transactions and determine their accounting treatment (IFRS & US GAAP)
- Draft technical accounting position papers documenting analysis and conclusions
- Support and guide the business before and during transactions (M&A, disposals, refinancing)
- Ensure correct implementation of new accounting standards (IFRS / US GAAP)
- Perform quality reviews on financial reporting (balance sheet, P&L, cash flow)
- Contribute to quarterly IFRS reporting and annual consolidated financial statements
- Support refinancing activities and financial disclosures
- Execute impairment testing and valuation exercises for participations
- Provide guidance on practical accounting implementation within system constraints
- Liaise closely with consolidation and reporting teams
- Collaborate with international stakeholders (including teams in other regions)
- Ensure consistency and quality across accounting processes and outputs
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Economics or equivalent
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience (Big4 and/or multinational environment preferred)
- Strong experience in technical accounting roles
- Proven ability to work independently in a highly complex and fast-moving environment
- Experience with M&A, disposals, or financing transactions is a strong asset
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines and high workload pressure
Must have skills:
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP (IFRS dominant acceptable if strong)
- Understanding of consolidation and financial reporting processes
- Ability to translate complex theory into practical accounting solutions
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong written communication skills (mandatory for position papers)
- Ability to operate end-to-end across business, accounting, and reporting
- High level of autonomy (self-starter)
- Advanced Excel and Word skills
Nice to have skills:
- Background in Big4 audit or advisory
- Experience in a regulated or large-scale industry sector
- Exposure to international group structures with multiple entities
- Experience with IPO / carve-out / spin-off environments
- Knowledge of local GAAP (Belgian GAAP a plus)
- Experience in valuation and impairment modelling
