About the job Commercial Equipment Field Service Technician

Job Title: Lead Appliance Repair Technician

Location: San Diego, CA (Encinitas-Carlsbad-San Marcos -N. San Diego-La Jolla-Del Mar areas)

Job Description:

We're seeking a Commercial Appliance Repair Technician who can confidently service the full range of commercial kitchen, commercial laundry equipment and ice machines. This role supports our healthcare, senior living, and property management accounts, where reliability and broad multi-category coverage matter most. You'll bring deep technical knowledge, confidence in complex diagnostics, and pride in doing the job right the first time.

If you value working with people you actually like, having fun while you work, and protecting your free time, this is the place for you. We'll also give you the ongoing training you need to keep growing.

What You'll Do

Diagnose and repair the full spectrum of commercial kitchen equipment, including cooking equipment (ranges, ovens, fryers, griddles, steamers, combi ovens), commercial refrigeration (reach-ins, walk-ins, prep tables, and ice machines), and warewashing equipment (commercial dishwashers and glasswashers)

Diagnose and repair commercial laundry equipment, including commercial washers, dryers, extractors, and stacked laundry units

Perform preventive maintenance services for commercial accounts on scheduled intervals (bi-weekly through semi-annual cadences)

Conduct condition assessments and maintenance documentation for commercial clients

Deliver clear, professional communication to facility managers, directors, and residential customers

Provide cost estimates and obtain approvals before commencing repairs

Order parts as needed and ensure efficient use of company materials

Collect payment and close work orders accurately in SmartWare

Serve as a technical resource and informal mentor to junior technicians

Represent Mr. Appliance with professionalism and reliability on every call

What We're Looking For (Required)

5+ years of hands-on commercial appliance repair experience

Demonstrated ability to service both commercial kitchen equipment AND commercial laundry equipment — this is a full-scope role, not a single-category specialty

Commercial refrigeration / sealed system knowledge and hands-on repair experience, including EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)

Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical bulletins

Multi-brand diagnostic capability across refrigeration, cooking, warewashing, and laundry categories

Comfort working around commercial gas appliance connections (ranges, fryers, ovens) and standard commercial electrical (120V/208V/240V/3-phase)

High first-time fix rate mentality — you diagnose thoroughly before you order parts

Professional presentation and genuine comfort interacting with commercial facility staff and residential clients

Valid driver's license and clean driving record

Ability to lift or maneuver 50 pounds

Authorized to work in the U.S.

Strongly Preferred

SmartWare software experience

Experience with major commercial kitchen and refrigeration brands such as Hoshizaki, Perlick, Bally, Hobart, True, or similar

Prior experience servicing healthcare facilities, senior living communities, or other regulated commercial environments

Formal refrigeration or HVAC/R training or certification (e.g., RSES, NATE, trade school)

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is always a plus

Why This Role Stands Out

Top-of-market weekly earning potential

Autonomy and trust — no micromanagement

Opportunity to influence training and technical standards

Stable, growing commercial account base across healthcare and senior living
