The Opportunity
A global packaging manufacturing leader in Richmond, VA is looking for an Electrical Engineer to play a central role in plant reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement. You'll work at the intersection of hands-on troubleshooting and strategic automation improvement, directly impacting production performance across a high-speed manufacturing operation. This is a role where your technical expertise shapes real outcomes on the plant floor every day.
Your Day-to-Day
- Provide hands-on electrical engineering support to daily plant operations, keeping production running safely and efficiently
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and automation issues — PLCs, motor control centers, drives, DCS/automation platforms, instrumentation, and industrial networks
- Partner with maintenance, reliability, and operations teams to implement corrective and preventive solutions
- Contribute to capital projects, equipment upgrades, and automation improvements across the facility
- Participate in preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including condition monitoring and reliability initiatives
- Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, and contractors on installations, commissioning, and technical problem-solving
- Maintain and update electrical documentation — schematics, system configurations, and equipment history
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and operational performance
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Industrial Technology, or a related field
- 2–5+ years of electrical engineering, maintenance, or reliability experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Experience in packaging, pulp & paper, or other high-speed process industries strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of electrical power systems, motors, drives, PLCs, and industrial automation
- Proven troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in complex industrial settings
- Familiarity with reliability methodologies, predictive maintenance tools, and maintenance workflows
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation
- Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a demanding manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices is a plus
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to electrical standards
