Senior Scientist - Underwater Acoustic Systems & Maritime Technology Development

Join our innovative Sensing and Communications Department as a Senior Scientist, where you'll lead cutting-edge research and development programs in underwater acoustic systems, sonar technology, and maritime defense solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute technology development programs in innovative maritime systems and underwater acoustic communications
  • Develop and manage strategic initiatives for the Sensing and Communications Department
  • Prepare and lead multidisciplinary proposals for novel maritime technology solutions and defense applications
  • Direct cross-functional engineering teams to solve complex system design challenges while meeting rigorous performance requirements
  • Apply advanced physics and mathematics principles to acoustic signal processing and sonar system development
  • Design and execute at-sea experiments and field testing of integrated subsea systems
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and scientists in project execution and technical leadership
  • Collaborate with project managers, IPT leads, and government customers to deliver innovative solutions
  • Guide programs through the complete technology lifecycle from concept through prototype development and deployment

Required Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, or related technical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of related engineering experience in research and development programs
  • Demonstrated experience developing innovative technology solutions in partnership with senior technical staff
  • Proven ability to technically lead and contribute to complex engineering tasks at a detailed level
  • Experience with acoustic communication systems design or implementation
  • Working knowledge of digital and analog circuit design
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholders including project managers and customers
  • Strong understanding of fundamental physics and mathematics principles

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD with 10+ years of experience in proposing, planning, and executing technology development programs
  • Track record successfully managing multiple multidisciplinary technical programs including scheduling, budgeting, resource coordination, and deliverable accountability
  • US Navy undersea warfare leadership and operational experience
  • Experience with subsea technology, sonar signal processing, and autonomous underwater systems
  • Background designing complex undersea systems including custom PCB design, embedded software development, data acquisition systems, and signal processing algorithms
  • Knowledge of Navy technologies, operations, and defense contracting environments
  • Experience guiding programs through various technology readiness levels from science and technology through deployment
