Certified Diesel Mechanic – Heavy Mining Equipment | 5 Openings
We are seeking experienced Certified Diesel Mechanics to join our dynamic mining operations team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting heavy mining equipment including haul trucks, loaders, drills, and conveyors. Your diesel mechanic expertise will ensure our fleet and machinery operate at peak performance, contributing to safe and efficient salt extraction operations. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs, rebuilds, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment including cranes, wheel loaders, conveyors, bulldozers, haul trucks, and personnel transport vehicles
- Operate and inspect mining machinery and equipment to identify defects, utilizing diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists, hand tools, and pneumatic tools while examining parts for damage and excessive wear
- Perform welding on broken parts and structural members to OEM standards
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance including checking fluid levels and servicing lubrication points
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems efficiently and professionally
- Obtain replacement parts, install components, and complete repairs in a timely manner
- Utilize technical drawings, schematics, and diagnostic testing equipment
- Maintain accurate paperwork and submit detailed work logs at the end of each shift
- Direct and train team members in equipment maintenance procedures and safety protocols
- Conduct daily inspections and routine housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe work environment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and management regarding safety concerns, production issues, and quality control
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations while remaining alert to hazards and changing conditions
- Cross-train in multiple skill sets and perform incidental tasks as required
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Accredited diesel engine mechanic certification required
- 5+ years of heavy equipment mechanic experience required
- 5+ years of experience working in an industrial shop or mining environment required
- Proficiency in continuous miner mechanical maintenance
- Demonstrated expertise with cranes, loaders, haul trucks, conveyors, bulldozers, personnel transport vehicles, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools
- Ability to diagnose system malfunctions, isolate causes, and correct deficiencies
- Capability to repair equipment to OEM standards
- Skilled in operating vehicles and equipment for pre- and post-maintenance testing and troubleshooting
- Working knowledge of lifting devices, hand tools, and pneumatic tools
- Experience repairing and replacing engines, transmissions, components, and sub-assemblies
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer programs
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with ability to speak, comprehend, and read English
- Reliable, dependable work ethic
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year CAT SIS Program experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work safely in varying temperatures in production/warehouse and outdoor environments year-round
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds regularly
- Willingness to comply with and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
