Role Overview:
We are looking for a Research Director / Senior Manager to lead our research agenda on practice-based learning. We aim to demystify what works, why it works, and how to implement it at scale in real classrooms and homes. This is a senior role with high ownership, responsible for shaping research questions, ensuring rigour, and translating evidence into practical programme and policy insights.

Key Responsibilities

1. Research Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and own the organisation's multi-year research agenda on student practice and learning outcomes.
  • Prioritise research questions that are both academically rigorous and operationally useful.

2. Study Design & Execution

  • Design and oversee research studies (secondary and primary surveys, quasi-experimental studies, action research).
  • Ensure high standards of methodology, data quality, and research practices.
  • Work closely with implementation teams to embed research into live programmes.

3. Analysis & Insight Generation

  • Lead data analysis and interpretation of findings.
  • Move beyond "results" to generate clear insights on why something worked or didn't.
  • Synthesise secondary research, global literature, and field evidence.

4. Translation to Practice

  • Convert research findings into actionable recommendations for classrooms, schools, NGOs, and government systems.
  • Support product and programme teams to improve design based on evidence.

5. External Engagement

  • Build our credibility as a serious evidence-generating organisation.
  • Represent the organisation with research partners, funders, universities, and policymakers.
  • Manage collaborations with external researchers and institutions.

Requirements:

    Required

    • 6+ years of experience (negotiable) in education research, economics, public policy, or related fields.
    • Strong grounding in research design, quantitative analysis, and evaluation methods.
    • Experience leading end-to-end research projects (not just analysis).
    • Ability to work closely with field teams and messy real-world data.
    • Clear, structured thinking and strong written communication.

    Preferred

    • Prior exposure to RCTs or large-scale education evaluations.
    • Familiarity with implementation research or improvement science.
    • Experience engaging with funders or government stakeholders
