About the Role:

We are looking for a consultant who will lead the foundations operations and strategy on the ground in Champawat. This is a unique opportunity to co-build an organization from the ground up, working closely with the principal of the foundation and shaping long-term impact in the region.

This is not a conventional role; the ideal candidate will be a co-creator, builder, and strategic thinker, ready to roll up their sleeves to understand the ground realities and co-develop initiatives that truly serve the people of Champawat.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Groundwork & Community Understanding

  • Design and lead a field research in the Champawat region and engagement plan to understand:
    • Youth aspirations, current job opportunities (local and external), and migration patterns

    • Livelihood challenges, especially in agriculture and rural entrepreneurship.

    • Infrastructure gaps (transport, digital access, schools, training centers).

    • Access to healthcare (especially for women and children) and nutritional status.

    • Psychology and motivations of rural youth and their families.

  • Conduct baseline surveys in 45 representative villages.

  • Use findings to recommend focus areas for orgs long-term strategy.

2. Programme Design & Implementation

  • Based on ground understanding, co-create youth-centric programs focusing on:
    • Skilling and vocational training.

    • Entrepreneurship development (on- and off-farm enterprises).

    • Job placements and career counseling.

    • Or any other focus area that orgs decides to work on

    • Design an implementation strategy with clear goals, resource plans, partnerships, and budgets.
  • Create feedback and monitoring mechanisms to adapt programs in real-time.

3. Operations & Execution

  • Identify and train a local field team, especially young professionals from Champawat.
  • Lead end-to-end implementation of programs.

  • Set up systems and processes for data collection, reporting, and impact tracking.

  • Identify ways to optimally use orgs existing transport vehicles for community benefit (e.g., medical access, livelihood support, educational transport).

4. Team Building & Leadership

  • Build a small but effective field operations team.

  • Develop and implement a capacity-building plan for local hires.

  • Create a collaborative, mission-driven culture within the team.

5. Partnerships & Government Liaison

  • Forge partnerships with local NGOs, youth-led organizations, training centers, and livelihood initiatives.
  • Liaise with district-level and block-level government officials to align with existing schemes and resources.

  • Represent Foundation at local events, government meetings, and community forums.

6. Organisational Strategy & Evolution

  • Work closely with the principal in co-creating orgs Vision, Mission, and Strategic Objectives, informed by lived realities in Champawat.
  • Be a thought partner in scaling orgs work to other blocks or neighboringstricts.
  • Stay adaptive to a startup-style environment where the role will evolve as the orgorganization grows.

Who You Are:

Required:

  • 7-15 years of experience in the development sector, especially in youth livelihoods, skilling, or entrepreneurship.
  • Experience in Uttarakhand, especially Kumaon region

  • Good Communication Skills [representing org in local/national forums]

  • Demonstrated experience in program design, field implementation, and community operations.

  • Past experience conducting field assessments and baseline surveys.

  • Experience in building and managing small teams in rural settings.

  • Strong interest and intent to work in the development sector long-term.

  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, under-resourced area.

  • Willingness to build from scratch and adapt to changing realities.

  • Fluency in Hindi (local dialect understanding is a plus).

  • Integrity, humility, and a deep commitment to social change.

  • Adaptable, flexible and a good listener

Preferred:

  • Experience working on youth-based initiatives with an entrepreneurship and skilling focus.
  • Flexibility is very important for this role.

  • Exposure to working with government stakeholders at district or block levels.

  • Familiarity with setting up M&E systems and using data to guide strategy.
