About the role:
The Program Office serves as the implementation nerve center for our educational programs, enabling execution excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous learning across all geographies and central teams.
The Head of SPO anchors this operational rhythm. This is a dual role: you will be both a systems architect (designing structures) and a problem-solving partner (ensuring translation of strategy into high-quality delivery).
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Build Operational Systems and Rhythm (The Architect)
- Design Rhythms: Design and institutionalize the organization's operating rhythm, including annual, quarterly, and monthly cycles for planning, execution, and reflection.
- Efficiency: Strengthen systems and workflows to improve predictability, reduce duplication, and enhance operational efficiency across diverse teams and states.
2. Enable Cross-Functional Alignment (The Conductor):
- Coherence: Drive alignment and coherence across Central Support Teams and State Operations through structured planning and review spaces.
- Bottleneck Management: Ensure early visibility of dependencies and bottlenecks, and enable collaborative, timely resolution across functions.
3. Track Implementation Health and Drive Improvement (The Analyst):
- Tracking: Establish robust mechanisms to track implementation progress, process adherence, and coordination health (Program Health Tracking).
- Learning Loops: Utilize insights from operational data and team reflections to trigger immediate course corrections and embed continuous learning loops into delivery systems.
4. Anchor Funded Project Delivery (The Fiduciary):
- Donor Management: Ensure all funded projects are executed on time, with clear milestone visibility, comprehensive documentation, and regular donor updates.
- Transparency: Strengthen donor readiness through reliable reporting and operational transparency.
5. Enable Leadership Foresight (The Synthesizer):
- Real-time Visibility: Provide organizational leadership with real-time visibility into implementation rhythms, emerging risks, and critical enablers.
- Actionable Insights: Synthesize complex information from various teams into simple, actionable insights that facilitate timely and strategic decision-making
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience: 15+ years of experience in large-scale program operations or implementation leadership, preferably in the education or social development sector.
- Operational Excellence: Proven record of significantly improving operational efficiency and implementation predictability across multi-state or multi-functional teams.
- Data Command: Strong command of data-informed management with proven ability to leverage operational data to drive coordination and accountability.
- Stakeholder Skills: Highly skilled in facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder alignment across multiple internal functions and external partners.
- Mindset: High degree of ownership, a strong bias for action, and a willingness to be hands-on and frugal.
- Desired: Exposure to grant or donor project execution is a significant advantage.
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working with ambiguity and innovative ideas.
